Feeds! Tell me what's the matter with feeds today??

ARRGH! I just downloaded a feed reader (specifically, Feedreader) for my computer at work. I will admit I am relatively inexperienced with feedreaders (On my other computers I just use the built-in one on Thunderbird). But I still want to put all my usual feeds onto this new thingy I got.

HOWEVER! Some of these blogs have gotten all complicated and the "subscribe" link takes you to a page advertising a specific type of -- usually web-based, it looks like -- reader. Readers they want you to create accounts for -- like my damned personal info isn't out there floating around the interwebs ENOUGH. And none of which is MY saved-on-my-computer reader.

And even if it WAS, hardly any of the now-specialized blogs out there are all affiliated with the same online web readers, so I'd still have to get an account with every single damn system, which completely defeats the purpose of a feed reader -- that is, having all your feeds in one convenient place!

Is there a way around this? I found one that said it'd let you subscribe by Universal Something Something, but when I clicked there it just downloaded a file to my desktop, which I assume just had the feeds up to that point and would have to be updated whenever I wanted to know what was new...in which case I might as well just visit the damn site.

Hell, I'll probably lose interest in half these damn feeds within a few weeks, but right now I want to know how a person can to Stick It To The System.
