Recieved in e-mail: "This is so true. Why would anyone want to work hard??"

As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.  That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A...

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.  The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.  As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D!  No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Well, I agree with most of it, yet I don't believe that "Obama's Socialist plan" is to make everyone equally reach or poor (I guess, I don't agree with that class' statement).  I am not trying to defend Obama or Democrats and in fact I can not say that I am a Democrat or Republican.

I am for balance in liberalism and conservatism and truly do not want to be involved in politics at all.  However, I believe that in this Capitalistic country like USA, government should be the entity that enforces the LAWS and ETHICS that would make sure that all people are safe in all aspects of their lives.  So, I don't mind paying taxes, so police, ambulance and fire crew would get to me as soon as I dial 911, I don't mind if they will create laws or policies that would allow people get affordable health care and education.  I don't mind if they would make sure that manufacturing companies and cities keep environmentally safe levels of waste, etc....  We are all in the same boat regardless of our believes.

It is sad that Ethics and Government are the terms that often don't go together :(.

Update:  After 2nd thought, Why do we need to work hard? What for?
Once we are mature enough, we go to school for the knowledge, not for the grades.  So, it is individual's choice to work hard or not to work hard.

politics, philosophy
