Crossing the Finish Line

I can't express just how relieved I am to have finally finished the story I was working on. It's just under 9,000 words and needs to be much shorter (2,000 words to be precise), but at least it's done. I've been working on this story for probably more than a year, off and on. I picked it back up a month or so ago and was making regular progress at writer's group. Once I finally got back into my writing groove, I was able to work on it pretty steadily this last week. I had been wanting to finish it tonight. We got to group late and weren't sure that we'd go at all after a rough, long day of work. But I am really happy that we did, because this one fact lifts my mood tremendously. It's funny, I think I may have partially gotten grumpy simply because I hadn't had a chance to write today. Or it could be that Drupal drives me crazy sometimes.

The story definitely has the potential to be an introduction piece for a future novel. I don't have any plans for that, though, just yet.

I'm kind of looking forward to rewrites and edits. I think the story flows pretty well overall, has rich and interesting characters, fun visuals, and a nice little universe. I want to make it better.

I'd also like to get another story going soon and ride this momentum so that I always have something in the works.
