A long time ago, I had this thing that made me really happy. Back during my freshman year of college, my friend Heather at UVa. had a daily e-mail she sent out titled Thought of the Day and gave everyone a little quote to think about. Being much less creative and a bit more humorous than she was, I ripped off the idea, bastardized it muchly and spat out a Thought of the Week. I admitted as much in the first one I sent out.
Hers were usually flowery and inspirational, often bits of poetry. Mine ranged from song lyrics to famous quotes, covering all sorts of emotions.
And it was pretty successful. In the pre-LJ times, it was a chance to send out a mass e-mail to most of the people I knew, inject a little humor or something else into a dreary Monday and let everyone know what I was up to. I kept it up for about three years, even during my semester off and sent out a final one the day I left W&M. Some of my friends tried to get me to keep it up, but I felt leaving W&M was the right time to end it.
That was about six years ago. But this weekend, I was thinking about it, figured I had this medium, why not? The life updates might change a little since that's what I use this for half the time anyway, but it's something that fits into a routine for me. And I need more routine.
So I guess here it is. The first of the reborn ToTWs.
"Life... is like a grapefruit. It's orange and squishy, and has a few pips in it, and some folks have half a one for breakfast."
