Game of Thrones thoughts.
The overview: Still loving it!
Things I loved:
-- Tyrion is just as amazing as he should be. Loved EVERY scene he was in, from his smacking Joffery to his breakfast with the other Lannisters to his conversation with Jon. Spot on. Last week we got a good sense of what an amusing character he can be; this week, we were shown how strong and intelligent he is.
-- Jaimie is perfect. I loved his scene with Jon.
-- Robert! Mark Addy is knocking it out of the park with him -- I find him much more interesting and entertaining here than in the books.
-- Joffery. He sucks. He just sucks the most. All I can think about when I see him is how much he sucks. Which means the actor is doing a GREAT job, because that is exactly how it should be.
-- Ditto Viserys. He did very little this episode, but every moment of it was spot on.
-- Loved seeing Dany start to figure out how to regain some agency. I thought the actress did a good job -- I could almost see her mind putting the pieces in place (though I might be projecting some).
-- Dany/Drogo's final sex scene was actually pretty hot. I can't wait to see their relationship develop. (Also, I would not say no to more naked!Drogo. Just saying).
-- I still like Catelyn more here than in the books, so that's nice.
-- I think the actress who plays Sansa is doing a wonderful job. I also find her more sympathetic here than I did at this point in the books.
-- Jon Snow is great. He conveys so much without saying much. I'm also enjoying Rob.
-- The pace was much better this week. It looks like they're really jumping into things now that the exposition is out of the way. Fantastic.
Things I didn't love:
-- Can they please give Drogo some lines? Please? The racial skeevy-ness of having the only notable character of color be a grunting rapist is off putting. (They better start fleshing him out, stat).
-- Sean Bean isn't really impressing me as Ned. There's nothing wrong with him, he's just...boring. But then, I just find Ned a very boring character in general, so I don't really know what else he could do.
-- Cersei had a kid that died? Um... K. That's interesting, if true. I can't quite figure out what they were trying to do with that scene re: her character. I reserve judgement.
-- Would have liked to see The Hound's wounds more -- though it's possible they want to save really showing those until he explains his backstory?
