I'm here to vent since I cannot do it irl.
I got married last weekend. My MIL has been telling the kids she will take them on a Westfalia trip for months. At first she promised to them for a whole week! We were looking forward to doing some renos and maybe do a small trip ourselves.
Then she told us she was taking the kids back the Thursday morning.... she had other plans with her friends. We decided to nix the honeymoon trip and do the sensible thing to finish the renos without the kids, it's easier and would benefit more in the long run.
Then on our wedding night, the Westfalia broke down.

We went to the hotel to sleep, they got the westfalia towed to my parents driveway and camped there.

When we went back to my parents the next day to pick up our luggage, she dumped the kids on us.
She didn't even let us repack our car with their stuff before taking off. Just... hey! we are having car problems, we are borrowing your parents van and staying at the hotel while the car is being looked at. We might be back in a few days. Bye! Vroom... out of town. I would have liked an hour to regroup, repack our van, maybe take a nap (would have been nice, I haven't slept in weeks).
We finally left my parents place at 5 pm with the kids and had to change our travelling plans and sleep at the hotel to make sure we would not fall asleep at the wheel.
Message from her this morning: We are coming back in town tonight, we are going with our friends Thursday, so yeah, we might take the kids for a night, wednesday... you know what MIL? Go F yourself! We decided to make it a family vacation and you are not going to F that plan too! If you take them Wednesday we can't go anywhere or have any real plans!
The week without the kids was her wedding gift to us.
She could have left us a few hours to adjust our plans
She could have taken the kids at the hotel and make it a fun trip with them. She had to rent a hotel regardless and the kids would have been less cramped than in the camper! The van was free of charge offered by my parents!
I'm exhausted and the kids are driving me nuts! I'm disappointed I didn't get a honeymoon. I'm still going to pretend it is fine.
