so let me preface this by saying that i REALLY love bagels and eat them almost every day. when i was in thailand, my diet consisted almost entirely of mediocre pad thai and kao pad (fried rice) during the week, so every weekend i would go to bangkok and gorge myself on different kinds of food, and every weekend i looked for bagels but found none. finally one morning in january aaron and i were desperately craving them and had the genius idea of googling "bagels bangkok" - only to discover that ricky's coffeeshop, RIGHT down the street, served bagels! thus began my love affair with ricky and his (her?) delicious, fresh, lovely bagels. i must have eaten at least a hundred of them (every weekend and then daily throughout the months of march and most of june). i insisted on bringing all friends and visitors to eat them (some more reluctantly than others), including my brother. i think so fondly upon those damn bagels and miss them terribly (despite the reality that the bagels i eat here are probably far better than those actually were), and dream of going back to bangkok one day to eat like twelve bagel feta sandwiches at once.

my brother has spent the last two weeks in cambodia. now he is back in bangkok on his way home, and this morning i got this e-mail from him:

you really aren't going to like this
