A change

Kim wakes up and decides it's time to leave the room. She misses Angela and the bar.
She knows that if she feels defenseless there's only one thing she can really do - get stronger. At home she worked out almost every day and here she's been swimming and doing some running but not enough. 'And a week of sitting in my room hasn't helped...'
She looks in the mirror, the bruises are fading and there's a determination in her eyes. 'No one can hurt me unless I let them' Sure, they can cause cuts and bruises on her body, they can abuse and injure her, but they can't scare her or turn her into a frightened child unless she gives them power over her.
Probably the sword lesson would be a good thing for her to see. 'Alanna doesn't need protection.'
Ramon is just one man. And she needs to get to a point where she's not afraid of him.
'Dad saw himself die and he's not hiding from Ramon...I need to be stronger.'
She puts on exercise shorts and a "CTU Academy" t-shirt.
First step: Running.
For the first time in days she opens the door to her room and goes into the hallway. It's empty, she lets out a breath and starts walking towards the stairs.
'Admit you need protection, at least until you can fight back...it's okay to be unable to take on someone yourself.' For a moment she remembers the overheard argument outside her door. The two most important men in her life were disappointed in her...'don't think about it, just keep moving.'
She walks through the bar, opens the door to the lake and feels the light on her body. She's missed the sun and the air and the brightness. Her heart's racing and part of her wants to go back inside, up to her room and stay there for another few days but she knows that won't really solve anything.
'I'm not defenseless' she thinks as she starts stretching. Her muscles protest a little and she realizes she's spent a lot of the past week in bed or with her knees bent and close to her chest.
'Chase didn't visit' the thought slips through her mind and she tries to push it away. 'Don't think, just stretch.'
After a few minutes she starts running the loop around the lake.
