Today I played in the BCD pairs with Kevin. We came in 3rd overall. I was somewhat apprehensive about doing BCD because I haven’t in so long, but the field was competent and fun.
In the first session I played N. We were doing pretty well but had had to weather a couple of bottoms. The last round was pretty wild.

They made 7 easily when I didn’t lead a diamond. I thought we did a good job of applying pressure. Never mind that we can only make 1♢.

With this prime hand, I had planned to bid 6c until the X came down. Then, my choice was to pass. I should have rewound it or bid 6c, but I hadn’t played with Kevin in years and wasn’t totally confident his hand was good as I suspected. Well, we made 7♣ for +750, less than +940, less than +1150, less than +800 (5h X down 4). P had

Even the diamond lead does not hold us to 6, as the clubs split 2-1 and the spades 3-3; the AQ of clubs may be cashed, set up a spade, and use the club K as an entry to dummy. I think in A/X this result would have been sub-par for sure.
