What all is involved in getting a passport for Jillian? Will I need a photo of her? This seems strange since babies change every week ( Read more... )

yes you need a photo - the passport is good for 5 yrs at the age and its ridiculous its even that long - Orla's pic is from she was about 4/6 wks old

you will also need to have you and J go to the post office when you are applying for it - both parents have to be there or if 1 of you is missing you need some notorized thing saying its ok by missing parent to get a passport - guess its cause of snatched kids issues

if you do it now you should be fine / won't need it expidited since you are not travelling till Jan - you can always call and have it sped up if needed - we did that with O's and I also think you need a birth certificate and they keep it - I think all the info is on the website and don't know the website but I am sure google will help

Huh. So, I could have a picture made of Jillian now and sneak some random toddler out of the country with her passport. Nice, though I suppose it is more convenient for parents.

Thanks.

I don't think I would want to pay the $75 or whatever it is to update it every few months to keep her updated :) I think in the old days I was on my mom's passport which I think meant I could only fly if I was with my mom.. that is kind of awkward too

she does look a tiny bit like the original picture and since we all travel together I don't worry about it and I do carry her birth certificate too - I would assume if my parents were traveling with her on her own I would hope they would do more checking

This may be a really stooopid question, but....Are you required to have a chld in a car seat if you are in a cab? I was just wondering how it's handled in big cities where people take cabs a lot instead of driving in their own cars.

nyc law says you don't have to and we have taken a car service from JFK in the past without one and did it in Chicago 2x - when she was younger she was in the ergo/belted on me and then seatbuckled in - chicago she was on my lap and belt around the 2 of us and I held onto her

we have a gizmo we could install into a cab if we really wanted to but haven't used it yet - they mention it in baby bargains under the car seat section if you have the book

if we were going some where that we are actually driving around I would drag the car seat - I would be too freaked out to do it more than 1/2 times a trip :) luckily the inlaws have a seat that we borrowed this trip so we didn't drag a seat with us

Yeah, doco! Yep, they will take her birth cert and mail it back to ya. Good point about both parents. I did not know that either. I will remind my sis.
