Ugh. Should've known last night when I was fighting to stay awake at 8:30 that it wasn't going to be a good night. I ended up with a headache at about 9:30 and just didn't sleep well at all, and when I woke up, I was light-sensitive and queasy and just blech. I ended up skipping church and sleeping while there wasn't anyone else in the house. I finally got mostly back to normal at about 4:00 this afternoon--the headache was gone, but I was just completely out-of-sorts until then.
I also had the joy of telling my boss (via text because he's in San Diego for the Plant and Animal Genome meeting) that the experiment he was working on all of last week didn't work, at all. Like, it was a complete and total failure. At least I had nothing to do with it, so he couldn't blame me. He tells me he's going to call me tomorrow--I get to run the whole experiment again, with just the control, to make sure it's not the kit or cells that are the problem....on top of all the other things I have to do, because my time of having nothing to do last week was pretty much limited to the first two days of the week, and now I'm ridiculously busy. *headdesk*

birdseyeview posted a fic rec yesterday, and the story was so good I had to pass the rec along, too.
Duties of the Hostess> by
wotcher_wombat(Dorea Black Potter, various other Blacks | PG | 17,000+ words) After a number of heartbreaks, Dorea Black Potter hosts an enormous party and all of the Black family is invited. Through the strength of her family and a few surprises, Dorea finds herself more powerful than she ever believed.
Don't let the fact that it's a genfic that revolves around a bunch of names on paper that might as well be OCs throw you off. Those of you who know me know I'm all about the characters when I read a story. Plot is good, but it's well-done characterization that draws me in and keeps me there. The characters in this fic aren't at all one-dimensional and, like
birdseyeview says, they're a perfect fit for the universe JKR has created. This is the kind of story I love to read.
