There is a lot of famous/dead people I would love to meet, but in reality I'd probably be so star-struck that I wouldn't even know what to say or do. Like Tegan and Sara. I would flip out if I met them! But there is someone who I'd love to meet. Actually, I've already met her once, but I want to meet her again.
Her name is Andrea Gibson. She is a spoken-word artist who made me fall in love with spoken-word. She is really political and an activist for many causes, including being anti-war, a feminist, a lesbian, and all of that really good stuff. I fell in love with her about two years ago. When I went to New York City, I decided to look up to see if she was performing while I was there. It was totally by chance, but she was. Tiffany and I went to see her at the Sidewalk Cafe in Alphabet City. Her first performance was "For Eli", which is the poem I totally fell in love with. She was amazing to see live. I can't really put into words how I felt, but her presence just gave me shivers. I did get to meet her. I bought her book of poetry and she signed it and I told her she should come to Calgary. She didn't even know where Calgary was, but said she performed in Vancouver on occasion. I'd love to see her again...
I took this video of her while we were there...
