We went to Prague last weekend for Vanessa's birtheday. Holy crap batman! That was the most beautiful city I have seen. Period. The downtown area is overrun with tourists (a disturbingly high percentage Americans), but if you just keep your head pointed above street level, the incredible architecture of the surrounding buildings makes it nearly easy to ignore the drunken American businessmen hitting on waitresses. The ctiy is just filled with beautiful old buildings everywhere you walk. On the north side of town there is an old castle on a hill that gives an incredible view of the rest of the city. I have never seen anything like it....it made me wish I could spend a few hours in a balloon or hang-glider just floating over the city taking it all in.
The beer is actually far superior to German beers (and I am a huge fan of German brews). Plus we found the ultimate....a Tex-Mex fast food place. A FANTASTIC tex-mex place probably better than the Cabana. Having been deprived of such pleasures for so long, we went a bit out of control and had a couple meals there (and brought some to-to beans & rice back to Leipzig). Yeah, we are freaks. :)
It is mind-blowing to think that the city was more or less completely closed off to the non-communist world for so long. Such a gem.
We happened to be there during a weekend when Nick Warren (well-known proghouse DJ) was supposed to play. Alas, he had some sort of "car accident" on his way to the airport and cancelled. We still had fun, though....the club "Roxy" is super-cool. Cheap drinks, good music, and a 40-foot glowing sperm hanging from the ceiling. But it was just too damned hot, so we couldn't stay for very long. At least we got to toast Vanessa's 27th birthday in a rockin' club in a foreign city....I might add she is aging quite well. ;)
We will be back in a few months....
Time to sleep and rest my legs (they are still in serious pain from walking around so much).
