Well, it's parents' weekend at FU and yesterday was my dad's 58th birthday. Things got off to a good start...we walked around the lake, strolled around downtown, then I took advantage of the hotel bath tub. :) How I've missed my baths. The Westin has the most heavenly beds of all time, so my parents and I took a nap before going out to eat.
We ate at a REALLY good Italian restaurant, and they had special small plates so I wasn't freaking out. I had lobster ravioli and ENJOYED it! Then we were headed back to FU to go to midnight madness, and we had to get back on the interstate. We had a green TURN ARROW and my dad starts to turn to get on 385, and the next thing I knew, I was flying across the backseat and all I could think of was "Oh God, my parents." My head slammed into my knee, and when I sat up, my parents were freaking out. My nose hurt so I put my hand to my face and felt blood, but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I was trying to assure my parents I was fine, and I looked around and realised I was sitting in broken glass. I was in the backseat of the car and the back windshield was completely shattered. As in no more. A woman had plowed right through the red light and when I got out of the car, I nearly fell apart. I was sitting on the back righthand side, and she hit less than a foot behind me. The back end of the car pretty much is no more and the bumper's completely gone. The front is ok, but we slammed into some traffic barrels because they were doing construction. I crawled into the front seat with my mom and cried because I was so scared. I got lucky with the glass. Only a few cuts on my face, neck, and hands. I kept finding glass last night...my pockets, my shoes, my jacket...everywhere. My nose is a little puffy and bruised, and my face is pretty tender. My head hurts and I'm a little sore, but nothing major at all. I kinda look like crap, but I think that's ok. The guy in the car behind us saw everything, and when the woman tried to tell the cops that she didn't run the light (even though we had a green arrow, moron) he testified that she did and we were totally blameless. My dad's car (which he bought last year) is totalled, so they're going to have to rent a car to get home. Great birthday, huh?
I got to ride back to FU in a cop car, which I told my parents just gave us the full experience. We didn't want to just sit around and mope all night, and my dad was being really calm, which is surprising. I think he was trying to hold it together for me since I was the only one even remotely hurt and it scared the shit out of me. So we went to Midnight Madness and had a really decent night. Of course I get to keep retelling the story over and over.
My parents are out looking for a rental car now, and then I'm not sure what we're doing. My mom wanted to go Hendersonville, but since we don't have the GPS anymore and it's been such a crazy weekend already, I'm not sure we'll do that. There's a BBQ for the girls on my hall and their families, and then a football game. Hopefully my parents will be able to stick out the weekend and stay pretty calm so we can just have a good time.
Time to head to the BBQ...
