It was open mic night at the Iota just outside of DC, and Anna decided she could use some "therapy" from work, mental, and relationship-related stressors. So she decided to give the DC nightlife a shot and scope out potential haunts to hang out at. Iota seemed to be the perfect place. It had a great environment, it was steady, and they had an open mic night - with an already set up piano - it was perfect.
Once it was her turn, Anna stood up and smoothed out her jeans and tan jacket over the white v-neck top she wore and made her way to the piano, getting comfortable on the bench before taking a deep, controlled breath and positioning her fingers over the keys.
After a short introduction with the piano, her smooth and rich voice echoed throughout the place, producing a silencing wave through the crowd of patrons as their attention turned to the mystery woman at the piano who poured herself into her cover of Sara Bareilles' City.
"There's a harvest each Saturday night. At the bars filled with perfume and hitching a ride. A place you can stand for one night and get gone. And it's clear this conversation ain't doing a thing, 'cause these boys only listen to me when I sing. And I don't feel like singing tonight, all the same songs..."
