I met a writer recently who writes at least three thousand words a day. I thought this was a good idea and started writing a little about some dreams I had recently. I think I got a hundred words out before I was interrupted. But still, one hundred words is better than none.
Today I also listened to about 6 graduate students getting MFAs in poetry, fiction or nonfiction writing. And I'm better than some, just as good as others, without the education. I know I can write well. I just need to find the discipline to sit down and do it every day. The skill of writing is something you lose if you never use it. I am terribly rusty.
I also need to fulfill my promise to my mom regarding her short stories. I have had them for more than two years and have only edited five of the twelve she sent me. This needs to change. Thing is, I get tired pretty easily these days and when I get home at night, I don't want to think any more. Pure laziness. I've never been especially disciplined, but maybe I can work my way up to spending a certain amount of time on writing projects every day.
In other news, tomorrow is the great day of reckoning for our bathroom. Seth will put up wallboard and tiles around the bathtub. Then we need to buy grout and paint to finish the job. The tiles will be white- not exactly interesting- but the stone tiles I wanted would have been prohibitively expensive, and we want something inexpensive but nice looking to help sell the house. The tentative buyer I found has decided to go for a property with city water, but I am hopeful that with the improvements we are making to the house, that we will find a buyer or renter in the price range we want fairly quickly. *fingers crossed*. Our friend Junko is still interested in the house, but I don't think she can afford it. We will see- if she can borrow the money from her parents, maybe we can work out a deal. I really hope we can sell it before we go- it is one less thing to worry about and we sure can use the money!
Hope everyone has a good weekend, whether you celebrate Easter or not. We are sort of celebrating- we plan to make latkes for breakfast, and then later in the day go to the Hilltop Diner for giant slabs of really good pie.
