Slow and steady is the key and it's definitely working for me. Down to 190 at the end of this week so looking at another 14 lbs to go to hit the objective set by the doctor. After that, any further loss is just extra gravy on the side. Not that I've had any of that lately! ;) However I will admit that I'm not as strict with myself as I was the first two weeks. While I am still avoiding certain things that make my blood sugar levels surge or raise my sodium or cholesterol, small amounts of food not on the doctor's list have made appearances on my plate. After enduring the blandness, I consider even these small amounts a reward and it makes sticking to the diet a hell of a lot easier.
Case in point, I've managed to eat out with my inlaws this weekend (Chinese food) and not gain any weight. In fact I was able to sample a little bit of everything and stop at the right time when I was full. I definitely know my stomach has shrunk and even looking at pictures in online menus makes me think that I can only finish half that plate now. I see a lot of doggie bags in my future when eating out. Also drinking a lot more water than I used to during and between meals.
The back was still a bit of a pain although I managed two sessions at the gym and will continue to do so. At least my back has healed to the point where I'm not worrying that something I do will set off some pain. The best part is I can actually sleep through the night rather than wake up every couple of hours to move to another position as my back has had enough of the previous one. I have an appointment with the physiotherapist on Thursday and hopefully he can give me a relatively clean bill of health.
