Snowflake Challenge - Day 5

Jan 07, 2012 19:30

Work kicked my ass, so I'm a bit behind.

Day 5 was listing non-fannish things that I'm into and sharing with the world.

This is border-line fannish, but I'm listing it anyway: I am an avid gamer, and spend much time playing World of Warcraft or console games such as The Legend of Zelda series, or The Force Unleashed. I have a soft spot for the Lego games in all their forms and a more-than-passing interest in Tomb Raider.

Other than that, I'm crafty. I can't draw, or anything, but I can suss out crafts by having a vague idea about what I want my end result to be and the type of materials I want to use and then go from there. In the past I have done egg-carton angels, sheep made from craft-grade puff balls, and elves out of ceramic flower pots. This past Christmas I took the flower-pot idea one step further and produced a nativity scene, complete with balsa wood manger and stable. I even found some hay for baby Jesus to sleep in. The only thing that vexed me this time around was sheep, but I'm leaving that for next year's challenge.

I also like building things; I was the girl who took wood-shop in high school. While I don't do anything on a large scale from scratch or anything, I'm into plastic model kits. My summer project last year was a set of 5 wizard mini's that I did to see if I could, since I've always said I'd never have the patience to paint those damned things. They turned out fairly decent, so I'm pleased with that. More recently, I've started building a model boat, which I'm kinda excited about. I've never built a boat like this before so it's new and frustrating and cool all at the same time.

With my new job, I've also rediscovered my interest in remote control hobbies. My build project after the boat's done is a 1/10 Mini kit that I am chomping at the bit to get to. I've never built an RC anything before, so this will be a fun exercise and was of learning more for my job all at the same time. I already have my paint scheme for one of my shells, and I just have to finalize my colours for it.

Um...I play clarinet. I played in grade school/junior high for a handful of years, but let it go in favour of the swim team when I hit high school. I'm kicking myself over it now, but my dad bought me a clarinet several years back (almost ten, now, holy crap) and I've picked it up sporadically in the past year or so. I can play through all the songs for each lesson once from chapter 1 through chapter 7 before I start getting tired and losing my quality of sound. I know I can do better if I were to practice more regularly, and I always have a blast when I do sit down to play, so I have no idea why I don't. I'll figure it out eventually?

I write original fiction as well, and have recently finished the final manuscript that completes my extremely rough-draft of a fantasy story I began back in 2007. I am now trying to get myself into edited the beast down so that others can poke at it and help me make it better. It is my goal to have this published some day, which would be exceedingly cool.

...I think that's it? If I think of anything else, I'll add it in later :)
