Bella awoke, slightly groggy from her sleep. She knew that she didn’t want to wake up quiet yet, but she felt arms tighten around her and the lightest pressure on her forehead. She forced her eyes open so that she could stare at the amazing creature that lay next to her. She tightened her arms around his neck so she could snuggle closer to him; she let out a sigh of contentment as she smiled into his chest.
“Good morning.” Her angel breathed in her hair.
“Morning,” she smiled up at him. He smiled back; as he leaned down to kiss her. He gave her the usual careful, chaste kisses that Bella absolutely hated, yet loved at the some time. She hated them because they were simply over to quick. Bella could never get enough of him; Her Edward; her miracle. She new until she was changed, this was all they could risk. Or all he would risk anyway.
As usual, Edward pulled away too quickly, causing a pout to form on her features, which he merely chuckled at. “Come on Edward. We’ve been apart for over 6 months. There’s a lot of catching up we need to do,” Bella teased pulling him closer to her. It had only been about a month since their return from Volturri, Bella was still grounded and Edward still felt incredibly guilty for everything that had happened in his absence.
Bella saw Edward’s face tense. She knew how guilty Edward felt about everything, and even though she never blamed him for any of it, and told him so every chance she could, she knew his guilt might never go away. She immediately regretted her words, even if they were only meant as a joke. She was about to take it all back, to apologize and explain what she meant when suddenly Edward kissed her again.
The kiss began the same as ever other, but Edward didn’t pull away and instead reached his hand and tangled it into her hair. Bella kissed him back as forcefully as she could, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him tighter to her. When he didn’t break away, Bella decided to make the best out of it. The tip of her tongue traced his lower lip and she was shocked when he still didn’t pull away from her kiss. What surprised her the most was when his tongue collided with hers. They kissed, tongues massaging one another’s, for what seemed liked hours - it could have been hours, they wouldn’t have noticed - in complete bliss.
Edward realized that Bella needed to breath and slowly broke the kiss.
Damn human needs. Bella thought to herself as she gasped for air and laid her head back on Edward’s chest.
While still trying to catch her breath, Edward whispered, “I love you,” into her ear. His cold breath ran down her ear and along her neck, only making her dizzier than she already was.
They laid there; waiting for Bella’s pounding heart to return to normal. I should make him feel guilty more often, Bella thought jokingly to herself as she smiled into Edward’s chest, completely content.
