Thursday evening, another storm just rolled over

The streetlake at the end of my block

The quality's crap, but you can see the storm drain bubbling

For some reason, while the police parked a truck across the road at the beginning of the lake (it's just to my left in the first two pictures), they did not park a car across the entrance to this turn-off, resulting in many people driving down it, only to get stuck. I have seen a lot of cars backing up past my window.

Apparently, summer in PG=thunderstorms.

As previously mentioned, the parents came up for a visit last weekend, which means I also got to visit with the doggies. Last weekend was also freakishly, mind-meltingly hot, which presented a problem. Namely, what to do with said doggies. They couldn't stay in the truck, and just sitting in the trailer all weekend would have been dull. By Saturday we had gone to every dog friendly park in the city, so what to do on Sunday? Well hurrah! for the Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum. Their website said they were dog friendly, and they meant it. They had a water dish. They had free biscuits (and the staff made sure we took some). The dogs were even allowed to wander into all of the buildings and exhibits. It was very pleasant. Koda was beside himself with excitement, it being his first museum. Sophie, on the other hand, was a good deal more sedate, having spent last summer travelling around to various parks and National Historic Sites. She's so jaded.

Fire engine sled

This model of engine was built for a specific mine (don't remember which one), and, as it turns out, the company that Mum and Steppater used to work for built the equipment for said mine. It's six degrees of industry!

Engineer R2-D2 at the controls! Choo choo!

Wooden plow for clearing avalanches. It also had controls on the top of the engine, so the engineers could jump free if another avalanche hit. This one is from the 1940s. The new plows are made of metal, and presumably don't have the roof controls, since that would violate about a hundred different safety regulations.

Steam locomotive

Happy yellow caboose!

Crane car

Steam donkey (this would forestry related)

Beehive burner. I don't know why they're called that, as they look more like badminton birdies than beehives. Some of them even have rounded mesh top. Actually, I guess 'birdie burner' does sound rather unfortunate.

All told, it was a neat museum. The forestry half meant that there were things like an exhibit of chainsaws, as well as ones on telegraph and telephone equipment. That seemed a little odd at first, but actually makes sense, given how interconnected the railway, telecommunications and the forest industry were and are.

It was a good way to spend a couple of hours. And the dogs certainly enjoyed themselves, if the speed with which they snorfed their biscuits was any indication.
