Well i haven't written in what 3 days.. one day because i didn't get home till 2am and the other because i was so tired from a full day after returning home at 2am.. lol.. so today i am well rested and getting ready to go to the zoo.
But for Friday, we didn't do anything as we were going to the acrobats in the evening... we got all ready to go, collected our next door neighbor Hanna, and were very excited but as you may not know traffic in Beijing is BEYOND terrible... at all times of the day you will get stuck in traffic for at least 20minutes... a friday night was even worse.. An hour and a half later we gave up going to the acrobats and headed instead for a place called sunlitun.. which is like a toshy area with bars, shopping and restaurants. We had Indian for dinner and were treated to a bollywood dance! it was great, then we headed to an Irish pub to have a quiet drink. It was a good night but we most likely should have got home earlier because we were going to Olympic park the next day...
We got to sleep in a little to 8.30 and getting up feeling just a little seedy ventured out to find a taxi with our Chinese escorts who pay for the trip... THe first taxi did not know how to get there... What? The Olympics were last year, how can you know know where they are, the second taxi thought he knew where it was so off we went. We reached the birds nest it was on out left and we kept driving... Samantha and i look at each other as we drive further and further away.. they were looking of Olympic PARK.. a park... We were beside ourselves with laughter... finally they turned around with much coxing from us and we got to the park adjacent to the stadium which is about a 15minute walk.. The path there is some kind of plastic boards and a concrete path beside it... DO NOT WALK ON THE PLASTIC BOARDS.. no matter how stable, samantha went through it like it was crumbling cruskets... OH&S issues here in china... the lake here was frozen over and we had some fun ice walking around. Before we got near the birds nest we went to find lunch, and the place we went was awesome!! we had a whole pork hock with chili and other stuff and it was delicious i will attach a photo to verify the awesomeness of the hock!
Finally we made it to the birds nest and it is HUGE, you didn't think it is that big till you get there and its just amazing. I was dragged into about 4 photos with Chinese people, which was terribly amusing and there was a group of 4 young men all pushing and egging each other on to come talk to me, they didn;t get the courage but was very amusing watching them try to work up the courage to talk to the giant westerner. lol.
Today we are too the zoo so i shall sign off as i must braid Samantha's hair and put on some makeup!
love you all
