Hey All,
Today we were very tired, but we still got up to head to the hospital at 7am, that’s our wake up time every morning so far, it’s so tiring. We just got home about 15minutes ago at 9pm. So we are very, very tired. After hospital we headed to the Novotel which is where our teacher and her husband is staying and asked about sending my luggage to Hong Kong, they were very UNHELPFUL! They told me to go to the post office, so I will see the prices to Hong Kong or Australia and if it is too expensive I will give up and lug it around, I hope I can send it forward.
We collected Jane and Heath and headed off to have Peking Duck... cost me 100 Yuan, way to expensive, but it was delicious. But it won’t be on the menu often. They gave us a card with the duck number on it and everything it was all very... can’t explain.
After duck we headed to a taxi to take me to the international post office, but unfortunately the taxi driver didn’t know where to go... idiot, so we hopped out and thought we should just go shopping instead. We were in one of the touristy areas, a massive shopping district and there was this market strip where you can get “shock” food such as scorpions, seahorses and starfish... and OMG horror, there are these tiny scorpions on a skewer about 4 per skewer and Samantha and I are looking at them thinking yuch and OMG THEY ARE MOVING!! THEY ARE STILL ALIVE IMPALED ON A GIANT STICK!! It was horrible. They were waving their little legs and claws around and even now thinking about it I feel creeped and goose-bumpy, I just hope that the seahorses were dead when they were impaled... I just wanted to get out of that street.
The major shopping malls are the same price as Australia, and Samantha and I are getting tired of people constantly grabbing us in the street markets with “Hello, Looky, You buy.” It gets very tiring after the bazillionth time. But they are all nice and I am becoming quite good at evading the grabbing hands of pushy street sellers.
At about 4.30pm we raced to get to Tiananmen Square to see the lowering of the flag, but we arrived too late, only seeing it being taken across the street.
Got back to the Novotel where we were re meeting up with Jane and her hubby (they had gone to see the Olympic Stadium, which we are seeing on Saturday) to go have dinner then take a rickshaw drive around HouHai lake... but unfortunately when we got there the rickshaw men had gone to bed.. Lazy bums! So we just went for a walk exploring the night life around the lake, playing the Chinese version of hacky sack.. Which is lots of fun though I am terrible at it. I should buy one to practice around the house.
Anyway home now, and having shower then writing my diary then bed
Love to you all
