Alan Moore Clears The Fog

"it is not the job of artists to give the audience what the audience wants. If the audience knew what they needed they wouldn't be the audience, they'd be the artist. It is the job of the artist to give the audience what they need." -Alan Moore

I suppose it was useful to put my head into Art As Social Practice for awhile, but it started to pollute my contact with what I call the Muse. An artist who makes art based on a democratic process is invariably going to make hohum mush, stupid human tricks, merely interesting conversations. That's how corporate record companies manipulate music and what you get is every song on the radio sounding more or less the same. If you ask them what they want before you start working and try to play to the Public you're not listening to your inner fire and you'll just give them what they expect. Who could have requested Bjork or Peter Gabriel before they unleashed what it is they do?
