I watched it for the first time last night, and I loved it! More under the cut
Firstly, although I disagreed with the basic theology behind the plot (christian and church history nerd, heheh) I thought the story was very interesting. The characters were all very human, too, which was impressive, considering the script. That made the contrast of Michael and Gabriel even more stark and very powerful. The two angels were stoic but not heartless, but there was a very basic between them and the humans, and I was impressed by that.
The music. Oh, my word. The music was absolutely PERFECT. It was everything a "biblical apocalypse" soundtrack should be, biblical and epic and frightening and moving. I freaking loved it.
I also really enjoyed the dynamics between the characters, especially Audrey's parents. I expected the to be the token "wealthy-stuck-up-couple" characters, but i was surprised by the strength of their loyalty to each other and by the wife's kindness when she greeted the possessed old woman. One of the most moving scenes in the movie, for me, was after the husband had died and Audrey was kneeling in front of her mother, giving her a drug that would make her feel better. Willa Holland (Audrey) was very impressive in this movie- she was a minor character, but she was rounded and fleshed out. I will admit to being an Audrey/Gabriel shipper. Even though their only interaction was the car crash, something about all the possibilities is very refreshing :) It is very easy to believe that, after Gabriel flew away from Michael, he went back to the crash sight, maybe unconsciously, and felt a pang when he saw the broken and mangled child....
Seeing as how I love impossible romances (and write stories in my sleep) there will probably be some fics/ficlets up for Legion from me soon. Heh. if anyone knows of a group on LJ for Legion, i woul definitely love to check it out.
I hope all of you guys are enjoying your summer!
Yours,
AG
