Queen Guinevere slipped out of the palace very early one morning, trying her best not to be noticed. This wouldn’t have been a problem a few years earlier, but now being Queen made her more noticeable. She slipped past the guards stealthily and easily, but it was her husband’s dearest friend and faithful advisor who would be the problem.

“Gwen? What are you doing up this early?” he asked and Guinevere froze in place and carefully turned around to face Merlin.

“I needed some fresh air, didn’t sleep well. I’ll be back soon,” She said and she quickly kept moving on.

She reached the courtyard and threw her hood up, moved quickly through the quiet streets until she reached her destination. The lower town was beginning to wake up and get ready for the day, so she quickly knocked on the door three times. The door cracked open an inch and she was then quickly ushered inside.

“You’re majesty,” the young woman bowed and Guinevere shook her head.

“No formalities now Hannah, I need a friend, not a subject.”

Hannah nodded her head and led her towards the back of her small home.

“You said you wanted a check-up, but why come to me Gwen? Why not go and see Gaius?” Hannah asked pulling back the blankets on the bed.

“Because this is a private matter and something I don’t want everyone in Camelot to know. I trust you as a midwife and as a dear friend to give me the right answer and keep it a secret.”

“Yes my-I mean yes, Gwen. Now just lay on the bed here and let’s check everything,” Hannah ordered.

Guinevere removed her cloak and laid down on the bed and lifted her skirts.

“So, why do you think you might be pregnant?” Hannah asked.

“I’ve been feeling pain in my breasts, I haven’t had my monthly course, and lately I feel very nauseous,” Guinevere calmly explained while Hannah checked her over.

After a few moments, Hannah went to a wash basin and washed her hands and turned to smile at her friend.

“Congratulations Guinevere you are going to have a baby,” She grinned.

Guinevere felt her heart leap into her throat and joy just spread through her. This was the greatest news. She was going to tell Arthur tonight at dinner, she would just have to make sure this was kept a secret until then.

Meanwhile, outside Hannah’s home, Gwaine was walking towards her house with a bouquet of flowers. He’d treated her poorly yesterday and felt he needed to make up for it. He was about to knock on the door when he heard two voices inside.

“Now Guinevere, take this for a few days to help with your nausea until you can see Gaius, he will more than likely have more than me to help you with this. I will be there for you when you have your baby…”

Gwaine dropped the flowers in his hand and felt his jaw drop at that as well. This couldn’t be the same Guinevere, could it?

“Thank you so much Hannah, I really appreciate this,” Guinevere replied.

Gwaine grinned, yup the same one! He had to go and tell Percival! He was going to love hearing good news this morning. Gwaine ran in the other direction just as Guinevere left to head back to the castle.

Gwiane caught up with Percival out at the front gates of the city and ran up to him like a mad man.

“PERCY! YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO BELIEVE THE NEWS I HAVE!!” Gwaine shouted running towards him.

“What?” Percival asked.

“Guinevere is pregnant! She’s going to have a baby!” Gwaine said cheerfully.

“How do you know this?” Percival asked.

“I just was over at Hannah Abbots’ home, the midwife in town, and I heard her talking to another woman and it was Guinevere! They were talking about Guinevere having her baby!”

Percival looked at his friend with a worried gaze, he had never seen him look this excited, except for a few drunken occasions. He smiled back at him and pat him on the back.

“Well that’s wonderful news. But are you sure you should be-”

“I’m going to go tell Lancelot and Leon up at the training field! See you later at council!” Gwaine yelled as he ran back towards the castle.

Gwaine reached the training field and saw Lancelot and Leon fighting each other in practice.

“LANCE! LEON! I HAVE EXCITING NEWS!” Gwaine shouted running towards them.

“You didn’t try proposing to Hannah again did you?” Leon asked.

“Or did you get some bar maiden pregnant this time?” Lance joked.

“No, I didn’t get anyone pregnant but Arthur did!” Gwaine said and both Lancelot and Leon looked at him with shocked faces.

“How do you know this?” Lancelot asked and Gwaine explained his story again.

“I don’t know if you should be going around telling everyone this,” Leon commented.

“Why? It’s exciting news everyone should know!” Gwaine protested.

“Yes, but I’m sure the King and Queen would rather announce this news themselves rather than having you go shouting it about town,” Leon said.

Gwaine just pouted and rolled his eyes, “You’re no fun Leon.”

And with that Gwaine headed back into the castle where he found Merlin and Elyan heading towards the council room together.

“Merlin! Elyan! Did you hear the news?”

“Morgana’s back?” Merlin asked.

“No, something a little bit more cheerful than that,” Gwaine said.

“You got someone pregnant?” Elyan asked.

“Why does everyone keep assuming it’s me who got someone pregnant?”

Merlin and Elyan just raised their eyebrows at him.

“Okay, so I have my bachelor tendencies, but I didn’t get someone pregnant, someone else did!”

“Who?” They both asked him.

“Congrats Elyan, you’re going to be an uncle,” Gwaine grinned.

Elyan’s jaw dropped and Merlin looked at him shocked.

“How did you-” Merlin started to ask until Gwiane interrupted him

“Hannah Abbots, Gwen was there and they were talking about her being pregnant.”

“We have to go congratulate Arthur!” Merlin suggested and the three of them went to the council room.

“Arthur!” Gwaine shouted as they walked through the door and Arthur looked up from his paperwork at the round table.

“Yes?” He asked.

“Congratulations!” Merlin said.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Elyan asked.

“Tell you what?” Arthur asked confused.

“You mean you don’t know?” Gwaine asked suddenly going pale and feeling ill.

“Know what? What are you three talking about?” Arthur asked getting a little impatient.

Gwaine, Merlin, and Elyan looked at each other and then back at Arthur.

“Nothing!” The three of them said in unison.

“Sorry we bothered you,” Merlin said and the three of them started to leave.

“WAIT!” Arthur shouted and the three of them froze in place, “Tell me now what you three are talking about or there will be consequences.

Meanwhile, Guinevere was up in their chambers sitting at the desk mending one of Arthur’s tunics when he came bursting into the room.

“Guinevere!” He grinned and he walked over to her and picked her up out of the chair.

“Arthur!” She said surprised as he held her close and then kissed her deeply on the lips, “Where is this coming from?” She asked once he pulled away.

“I just heard the news, I’m so excited.” He said leaning his forehead against hers.

“What news?” She asked confused.

“That you are carrying our child,” He replied like it was the simplest thing in the world.

Guinevere sighed and rolled her eyes, “Who told you?” She asked trying to be upset that she couldn’t be the one to tell him.

“Gwaine, Merlin, and Elyan.”

“Why does it not surprise me that Gwaine’s name is in there, he’s been seeing Hannah Abbot for weeks.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I didn’t want you to find out till tonight at dinner when I was going to surprise you, so I went to see the midwife, Hannah Abbot, but apparently Gwiane overheard our appointment and decided to tell everyone.”

“You forget my love, good news travels fast through the grapevine in Camelot,” Arthur teased and Guinevere just laughed as he kissed her again.

“So do you think we should still tell the people?” Guinevere asked when he was finished.

“Give it a few days and I’m sure Gwaine would’ve told everyone by then,” Arthur joked.

The King and Queen then embraced again in happy bliss at their beautiful future ahead.
