What can I say? I'm not immune to reminiscing and looking forward come New Year's. This last year's been pretty damn great. Spending lots of time with friends, getting married, getting into grad school, Harry Potter finale, going to my friends' weddings, having a fantastic apartment in a great part of town, turning 25, going to the symphony to hear Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain... Yep, 2007 was pretty darn kind to me.
2008: Moving to a new state, starting grad school, going on our honeymoon to Turkey-Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Croatia, Martin and Chigusa's wedding (this week!), and all sorts of currently unknown wonders that lie in wait for us to discover them.
I had fun last night at Stefa-Martin-Joseyln-Chigusa's place for New Year's. I may have eaten too much and cussed too loudly during Halo 3 pwnage. This last week has been wonderfully relaxing. I've gotten to see some of my friends: Corey who flew in from NY, Rebecca who leaves for Tanzania this week, and the SD regulars. Aaron went to Vegas for Martin's batchelor party.
They say that contentment breeds complacency, but I think some quality R&R is vital! I think a defining characteristic of humanity is the improvement of oneself and of society as a whole. When school ends, we must strive to continue our own edification. I heard a Quranic quote yesterday: "If a man has been educated, it does not mean that he is wise. Show me a well-traveled man and I will show you a wise man." The person who quoted it also extrapolated that the Prophet Mohammed elevated the prilgrimage to Mecca as one of the 5 Pillars because he felt strongly that people should travel and be exposed to different places and experience different cultures. I'm by no means a Quranic student and while I own one, I have to admit I've never read it. But I really like that idea as part of a religion.
new year's,
