So apparently my mother (crazy geneology buff that she is) traced one of daddy's ancestors back to Adam, which is kind of cool. Well, she traced it back to John Whitney in 1635 who took it upon himself to trace his ancestory to Adam. So yeah.
Which is way more disturbing is the fact that John Whitney's ancestors included several Irish monarchs. What the fuck?! I don't want to be Irish! This is so unfair! She said it hardly counts, like it would make up a fingernail or something, but still. Goddammit.

Other interesting people I am descended from:
Anne Whitney, sculptor and friend of Susan B. Anthony and all those women (there is a statue she made omewhere in Boston-it's pretty-I forget where)
Eli Whitney, cotton gin
William the Conquerer
Turston Du (sp?) Whitney, carried the flag at the Battle of Hastings

and who the fuck are the Baskervilles?

Several generations back (on the Whitney side) all the men went to Yale and Princeton and the women went to Wellesley and they were all lawyers and doctors and shit. And then somewhere down the line someone decided to move to the south and made a few bad investments and a few generations later we have my father growing up in a trailer in backwoods Florida. We owned castles and now we live off social security. Sadly I have no pride in any of this because when I told people growing up they said I was lying and made fun of me so I'm actually kind of ashamed. This was a ramble. I apologize.

ps. I do actually have pride in Anne Whitney because she was a feminist artist and rocks my socks.
