Ashland was quite lovely, though the plays weren't as utterly transporting as Bourne's Swan Lake. Sometimes I have the feeling that I enjoy the plays partly because I want to enjoy them so much, or else I just get vibes that few others do. I didn't like anne frank! I thought it was so cliche and sentimentally manipulative. in fact, I thought the "play" itself was so lame, that I felt embarrassed at myself towards the end when I cried :( yes, I cried! and I was sooo embarrassed because, as art, I think the play was so mediocre. I loved the set though. the production itself was nice, but I guess they had quite a bit of money.

I like importance of being earnest :D didn't like the actor playing algernon however...and that kind of sucks, because algie is the funniest, most compelling character! he's supposed to be radiant and take up the entire stage with his presence. the actor we saw totally didn't do that, so it ruined a lot of the "magic" of that play for me.

winter's tale was good :D I loved how the interpreted the play and added in their own elements--a lot of people hated the singing, I liked it. the dancing, the costumes, the sets--you're right about the creativity. I looooved the king's soliloquy, i thought he was a great actor. hermione was good, too. i actually liked the thief, but I can understand why he might be annoying. I looked at the different tone as the differences between winter and spring, since I gues shakespeare wanted the seasonal setting to be intentional. i.e. the despair, the darkness of the dead winter contrasted with the rebirth, the beauty associated with spring.
