“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” Luke 2:14 (NLT)
The busy, hectic time just prior to Christmas has come and gone. Hubby and I spent a quiet Christmas Day at home with our pets. Maggie and I went for a walk and thoroughly enjoyed the mild temperatures and light snow that was coming down. It was very quiet, and peaceful. The two dogs that live across the road joined us for part of the walk, but we didn't encounter any people or vehicles.
We broke with a long standing tradition and did not have turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas Day. Instead we had BLT's for supper. I had to cook up bacon for the twice baked potatoes that were to be part of the buffet type meal for our family get together on Boxing Day, so I thought why not BLT's and avoid lots of left overs from a big turkey dinner.
Boxing Day was lots of fun. As usual there was more than enough food, so left overs were shared. This was a totally gluten free event to make everything safe for our youngest daughter to eat. I was able to adapt two family favorites: a cheese ball and spinach dip, to gluten free versions which were every bit as good as the originals. There was lot, LOTS, of variety and everyone including our grandson who is recovering from the flu ate and ate. After opening the last of the Christmas gifts we played board games. We tried out the WOW (World of Warcraft) version of Monopoly that our grandson got for Christmas and happily he won. Next we played
Settlers of Catan, which was a lot of fun. Perhaps it will be added to our game collection as the grandchildren like to play board games.
Today is going to be a day of relaxation. Hubby and I have no interest in all the "Boxing Day/post Christmas" sales. I don't need to cook, laundry is caught up and the house is relatively tidy so Maggie and I will go for a walk later on this morning and that's about it. Oh, I need to unload the dishwasher and wash up the crock pot that I left to soak overnight.
I haven't been very "postie" of late and am wondering if this journal has run its course. I have been pretty busy the last couple of months and my online time has changed having Hubby home after his hip surgery. He has been given the green light to return to work in January so I guess will see how things go in the new year.
