Hubby and I went to see a movie this evening. I like going to the movies. I like watching movies on really big screens and eating too much popcorn. Apparently a lot of other people like to go to the movies too but unfortunately somewhere along the way they have lost all movie going etiquette.
After all the previews the audience is asked by a polite voice to please turn off your phones so that everyone can enjoy the movie. A young man sitting in the row ahead of us must have checked his phone every five minutes! Come on.... can't you live without your phone for even a couple of hours. I eventually asked him very politely to please turn off his phone. He didn't, but did make an attempt to hide the fact that it was still on. He must have had some really important business deals going down or perhaps he was getting text messages from the prime minister or something.
Then there are those people who have to talk constantly through the movie. The elderly woman next to me must have asked her husband (I'm assuming he was her husband) at least 20 questions about the movie. Clearly he had no better idea than she did given the vagueness of his responses. If she had been quiet she would have understood what was going on. I'm not sure why they came to see the movie, as neither of them seemed to have any idea of what the movie was about. I finally leaned over and asked her nicely to please stop talking and just watch the movie. She, thankfully stopped talking or lowered her voice so that I wasn't party to their conversation.
I had seen The Hunger Games before but Hubby hadn't. I still enjoyed the movie and the popcorn but the people around us took away from the experience. At one point the picture portion of the movie quit and we were left with a black screen. The problem was solved pretty quickly and everyone in the theater was given a pass to see a movie of their choice for just $1.00. It helped to make up for the thoughtless movie goers. Why can't people just sit and watch a movie? If you want to chat about a movie stay home and watch a DVD. If you are so important that you have to stay connected with everyone in your circle of friends 24/7, stay home and watch a DVD. Although, I'm not sure that you would get much out of the movie in either case but at least the people in the theater could enjoy their movie. I'm just sayin'.
OK, rant over. I'm calm.
