Bringing a new puppy home is a lot like bringing a new baby home. You are "on" 24/7 and at those times when puppy/baby is asleep it's a toss up whether to sleep as well or to do one of the many things that hasn't been done lately. Usually I opt for the latter. Throw into the mix hubby recovering from surgery, a recovering sick dog (Sophie), and a jealous dog (Teddy)and you end up being tired and cranky. Thankfully things seem to be settling down. I haven't posted and haven't commented on any of my friends posts for several days. Free time (which is short) is taken up just trying to catch up with everyones news.
Sophie is back to her old self except that she has become a real snuggle bug with Hubby. Nine times out of ten, if Hubby is sitting Sophie is on his lap or laying with her head on his shoulder as seen here:
Or she sits on Hubby's shoulder like a parrot:
Maggie is starting to understand about going "outside" and accidents are becoming the exception rather than the norm. Up until now she has been sleeping in a section of the laundry room with the kennel door open so she could eat, drink or play. Several morinings the pee pad was dry and she either slept or kept herself amused until a civilized hour in the morning. Last night she spent her first night closed in her kennel. She put up quite a fuss but eventually settled down. I did have to get up with her a couple of times during the night so today my butt is dragging a bit. Hopefully tonight will be better. Maggie and Sophie play together a lot. Their favorite games are wrestling and tug-o-war. So far Sophie as been the victor in the tug-o-wars. I'm not sure is she is stronger or just has better traction. Here are the two of them in mid tug:
Maggie outweighs both Teddy and Sophie now and is as tall or taller than both of them. It's hard to tell, they rarely stand still. Teddy doesn't seem overly interested in Maggie. Usually he just growls at her. I think he finds her antics a bit much. The last couple of days Teddy has seemed more accepting of Maggie but they don't play together. Teddy is a jealous dog and hasn't been listening like he usually does. Both Hubby and I are trying to give him lots of attention but it's sometimes difficult to be patient when he won't listen.
Here is a picture of Maggie watching Teddy and Sophie rolling around like fools in their shared dog bed.
Hubby went back up to Fort McMurray yesterday after being off for 3 weeks after surgery. The house was very quiet today. I kept myself busy between the trips "outside" with the dogs. I did laundry, paid bills, stripped wallpaper off the walls in the office (an ongoing project) and did "doodle" patrol in the yard and the cat's litter boxes. I probably won't be up too much later if Maggie co-operates and goes to sleep.
