So, since I've seen a few people here bashing 4th Edition Dungeosn and Dragons, I thought I would drop in my 2 cents from the opposite view.

I've been playing D&D since the old blue Basic set, in 1979. And, for my money, 4E is the most enjoyable version of the game to date.

Let me try to address some of the common complaints.

4E is a clone of ( Read more... )

4E killed my parents in a dark alley after they took me to see "Zorro."

I guess my rejoinder to that would be to ask in which way you feel like the classes *don't* feel like themselves in 4E? I think the character classes feel very different from each other, even within the same role. A bard and a cleric feel very different from one another, to say nothing of a warlord, even though all are Leader-type healer classes. And I like the playing field leveling. All the classes are now equally useful and interesting,

Even with the flaws of the original, un-eratta'd monster manual, I have GM'd two campaigns of 4th, one run online, the other face-to-face. Both were smooth and easy to run, and unlike other RPG's I've run, each player felt like they had something useful to contribute, even when the scene wasn't their specialty.

It's not 3.5. In many ways, I consider that a blessing.

Once again, in our high level 3.5 game tonight, I sat and waited while the high-level fighter calculated his atatcks and damage. I'm not joking when I say that he had to re-add everything about 5 times, making sure that all his little buffs and bonuses were accounted for. I looked at Iyu and mouthed, "4E", and he chuckled and agreed to some degree.

The only complaint I had with it was that it didn't feel like D&D to me. However, it did feel like it was a very good game and one I would enjoy playing.

Of course, this is only from reading the books. I've got noone to play with at the moment so I haven't tried it yet. Maybe someday...
