Manga Summary by Chapter personality: "King of Indifference". This is the nickname those around Miharu give him, and for good reason. Because that is what he is. Indifferent to everything, showing caring or passion for nothing. He spends his days in school blankly watching the sky, ignoring everything around him. Even pencils suddenly lodged in a line on his desk. Yeah. He doesn't pay much attention to those around him, no matter what is happened. Neither does he pay much attention to himself. He seems to just drift along, occasionally popping up with a bit of wisdom and sentimentality that he brushes off by telling every "That's what Granny told me". He usually takes the roll of the observer, sitting wuietly in the corner, and remaining soft-spoken, when he talks at all.
Despite this indifference, Miharu seems to have a dry sense of humor, and a more manipulative side. He amuses himself by using his looks to his advantage. People find Miharu cute, and he knows it. All to often he uses his cute face to mess with other, wide eyes throwing them off balance and making them feel horrible about asking a question he doesn't like, or even getting them to lower the price of an item he wants. Then eh walks away without shame, a pair of devil wings fluttering on his back.
But this indifference and preference for manipulation is only what Miharu is on the surface. And it's often used to turn people away from looking to closely at who he truly is.
In his heart, Miharu isn't a King of Indifference. He tells himself he doesn't care, and tried to distance himself from people for one thing: To keep from hurting others and being hurt himself. If he does not hurt others, he will not put the burden on himself or his existance on them. Tobari once said that "He is the kind of guy who would think it the worst thing to have someone cry over him if he died.", and this does seem to prove true. Miharu dons his mask of indifference to keep others at bay, and thus, pain they could cause. Why he became this way is unknown, and it's likely we'll never be told.
Despite his desire to not care for anyone, he does. He protects his "friends" at the risk of his own life, and doesn't seem to care that it would bring him death. Though he denies it, he wants them to be safe. But despite his efforts to protect his friends, he doesn't seem to understand why people will do the same for him. He doesn't understand why so many people will go to his side in the fight for Nabari, or why Tobari would swear allegiance to him. To Miharu, it is a ridiculous idea. But still, he persists in caring deeply for those around him. And persists in denying it. It's a cycle for Miharu.
And we're told the truth by the character who can read hearts. Miharu's heart is screaming "I need more love!". Miharu wants to be able to express his caring for those around him, wants to be cared for in return. But his insistence on not being a burden, on not looking like the weak person he really is, won't let him.
But then he meets Yoite.
It is impossible to talk about Miharu's personality without mentioning Yoite. Because Yoite is at the core of all of his development. Through Yoite, Miharu allows himself to express affection, to be something other than indifferent. He allows himself to care, and acknowledge that he cares. From the moment they met, Yoite and Miharu had a connection. And it only became stronger as time passed. Miharu, who wasn't really planning on granting anyone's wish with the Shinrabansho, is willing to grant his. Yoite wants to be erased, to never have existed. And Miharu will give him that.
But he doesn't want to. Even though Miharu knows that granting Yoite's wish will take away his pain, Miharu cares for him too much. He is comfortable around Yoite. Content. And this want, the want to stay with Yoite, is so strong, that the Shinrabanshou itself refuses to grant Yoite's wish.
And this only fuels his indifference in the end. Unable to stop Yoite's pain, the thoughts come back. If only he hadn't been born, the Shinrabansho, the power that set everything in motion, would not be so desired. It would not lead to everyone fighting, and suffering.

sample journal entry:
[ Hello, residents of Willaknapp! Have one (1) Miharu Rokujo looking at you in a bored manner through the Junogam. In fact, the boy looks positively drowsy. ] Have I been kidnapped? Ah...I suppose I should wait for Tobari-sensei than. Or maybe Yoite. [ Silence for a moment. And then the boy gives
a look. ]
H-hey, whoever is there.. You aren't going to hurt me are you? Sensei says that when you're taken by strangers, to be very quiet and do as they say.. I don't think you can ransom me for very much, though..
Don't worry, I promise to behave!
[ Feel free to notice the almost tangent devil wings on his back. they might as well be real. ]
third-person sample:
With a storm rolling in, the clouds had darkened, and Miharu was left in the shadow of a patio. He merely sat there, staring at the ever darkening sky, with hsi legs pulled to his chest, as the rain finally came down. Firs a few drops, then heavier. He didn't mind it, the rain. the rain or lightening suddenly breaking across the sky. In fact, he might have enjoyed it, if he had been watching it with Yoite.
A hand reached out, cold droplets sliding down his fingers to finish their journey to the ground. Trying to run back to the inn through the rain was too much trouble, and he would probably get yelled at by someone within for being irresponsible. A wise-eyed look, and they would back off, surely, but it wasn't worth the effort to even try.
Miharu wanted to watch the rain with Yoite.
It was an odd feeling now, to not have him at his side. The warmth was missing, the rustle of a too heavy coat that wasn't even removed on the hottest of days gone. Raindrops continued to slide off his hand as he remembered the day they had first met. They hadn't been around each other so much then. But even during that time, it had been odd. He had wanted to see Yoite again, find out about him. He seemed so sad. Miharu had never been intrigued by another persons sadness before.
The hand fell to brush along the ground, mud building under bitten nails.
It was boring in this world. Boring and noisy and too much trouble. Filled to the brim with people, thought the crowd of earlier had thinned out at the first sign of rain. But Japan was like that too, so it wasn't a big change.
Time passed, and the rain finally thinned out. Miharu lazily rose to his feet, toeing at the dirt before heading for the direction of the inn at the slowest pace possible. Maybe he could sneak in without being noticed, save himself from being jumped by one of the more excitable caravan passengers.
He didn't really feel like eating anyway.
