So, I've had a policy of not telling coworkers about belly dance. I want to be taken seriously at work, and having people imagine my navel (or imagine the costumes and moves of some belly dancers) doesn't seem productive for that. I have a lot of awesome coworkers who would think it was cool, but then again, I also catch chest glances when I'm wearing a slight v neck shirt (seriously guys, learn to keep your eyes from drifting at the office by the time you're 30! I've studied eye tracking & NLP, and I notice where your eyes are going!)

This year at the ren faire I ran into one coworker, but I asked her to keep it on the DL & I didn't hear anything about it. Then today a coworker mentioned he and his wife are going to the restaurant tomorrow where we have a show. Now, this coworker feels uncomfortable when girls wear shirts with funny things printed on them, because he doesn't want to read the shirt & offend. So I figured I might as well skip the "does he recognize me with makeup, contacts, & fake hair?" game & let him know, because he might actually be more uncomfortable than me if I surprised him. Oh, and I figure if there's going to be massive awkwardness, do it before I'm "on stage" in a performance!

So, I'll see if he shows up. And really, I think our dance is very family-friendly and appropriate. I think I'd rather have someone come see our stuff than imagine some other things they've seen. We're way on the family friendly spectrum of belly dance for our shows. And quite good!

So, um, yeah. That's my story for the day!
