one of life's little annoyances:

when you're eating cereal, and you find you've poured too much milk, so you take several deliberate spoonfuls of milk only, then the cereal:milk ratio looks okay, and then once you've eaten a little more you find you took too much milk, and now have excess dry cereal with too little milk.

if that makes any sense.
anyway, i was shocked today when i could actually do the run 3 mins/walk 3 mins thing that my DEP guide instructs me to. previously, i almost died running 3 minutes straight (for us out-of-shape people, it's harder than it sounds! try it!), even with walking for 3 minutes afterward. today, i did it! twice in a row! after that, i went back to the run 2/walk 3 thing. so i did this:

3 min. run
3 min. walk
3 min. run
3 min. walk
2 min. run
3 min. walk
2 min. run
1 min. walk.

so, i got 10 minutes of good running in there. my total was 1.6 miles, 175 calories burned. wheee... gotta love exercise. i also did 12 counter push-ups (i'm so weak! sob!) and 30 sit ups. i think, to get more push-ups and sit-ups out, i should give myself a little rest between the running, cycling, and lat. pull-downs. currently i just mesh everything together; run, then do push-ups, then do pull-downs, then do sit ups, then do more push ups. i think that perhaps a 1- or 2-minute break between each of those would help to maximize my performance. besides, you are allowed (more like required) a break during the PFTs in boot camp.

currently, despite all my intense efforts, i'm focusing on this mantra: "i'm going to be as ready as i can. if i don't meet all of the requirements when i first get there, at least i'll be closer than most people." as it turns out, it doesn't matter (TOO much) if you fail your first PFT at boot camp; of course it's much better for you if you don't fail it, but they won't put you in the physical fitness platoon (which everyone dreads) if you can't pass it. besides, they're working you to the bone every day anyway, so it'll be pretty hard to not pass it by the fourth week, when they give you the second one.

anyway... *groans* my shoulders hurt. later, y'all.
