Semester's End

Last week of the semester here - by which I mean, finals are done, students are packing up and clearing out, the library is dead, and I get to spend most of my Saturday sitting in a gym listening to people talk while desperately trying to find ways to occupy my mind.

How many of you loved sitting through /your/ graduation? Oy. On the plus side, I do get a comp day for it. Maybe I'll take Monday off and go see Iron Man!

Since I have Thursday evenings this semester, I managed to escape the evening shift this week (I can't ever decide if I'm happy to not have to work evenings over the summer, or sad that I lose my sleep-in day). Which means that I've SWITCHED PILATES classes, which is FANTASTIC.

I'm now back to the teacher we had last fall, who is amazing. We had an easyish class last night to adapt the new folks and it was still more intense than anything I've done for the past six months (when Kristi had to step back for work reasons and a new teacher, who had very clearly never done pilates in her life and who has not improved much since and who regularly ends class 15-25 minutes early, stepped in). I am beyond thrilled to be back with Kristi. Not only does she really know her stuff in terms of what your body should be doing and when, but she's also great at reminding you and explaining it to you, so that you feel every muscle activate and you can focus the exercises where they need to be focused. Pilates is so much about control and precision and really concentrating on specific muscle sets, and it's easy to half-ass it if you want. I think I might cry in the fall when I have to go back to the half-ass class.

Today, I can definitely feel my abs!

work, exercise
