Positive reasons for teaching middle school over elementary school: (that I have noticed on day 1)
* You have a different group of kids every hour. So, if there is a "problem child" or a group that gives you a headache - you only have to deal with them for an hour! Not all day every day like an elementary teacher would.
* You only have to prepare like 2 lesson plans a day. She has 3 8th grade writing classes and then 2 7th grade writing classes. She just has to make up 2 plans , one for each grade and then copy them. Where elementary has to make a plan for every subject and for an entire day.
*She teaches from 815-2 (not counting her lunch hour). At 2:00 she has her "prep" where you "prepare" and then she can go home at 3:30ish. Those are the best hours EVER. (perfect for a mom who has kids getting out of school too).
I never thought I would like middle school but I really had a great time at my first field in pontiac yesterday. I still picture myself as an elementary teacher but I think I would enjoy doing middle school too. Maybe I'll change grades a lot through my career since I seem to like everything. :)
