Ficcish Bandwagons, how I love thee!

Feb 07, 2009 16:50

There's a fic meme floating around on my flist started by donutsweeper and mad_jaks which I wasn't going to succumb to, but having read what other people are making of it, it looks like too much fun!

Give me a title and I shall write a snippet for it in several different fandoms of my choosing. Using song titles and snippets of lyrics is perfectly acceptable as ( Read more... )

Yay!

"Re: Your Brains" (lyrics here if you're interested)

I hope that's not too weird. :) Um, here's a more normal one, maybe: "In Remembrance of My Enemy"

Try these for size...

Re: Your Brains

Torchwood

When Ianto unexpectedly found the note, he bit his lip through in an effort to control the surge of grief that flowed through him. God, he missed Owen and his irreverent humour. And this; this had had Jack perplexed and them in stitches for days.

Dresden Files

I breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason in this situation being told that a person *wasn't* interested in your body made life seem a whole lot brighter.

In Remembrance of My Enemy

Doctor Who

Lighting a candle was such a simple and very earth-like thing to do but on this day at least it seemed appropriate, despite the fact that he could almost hear The Master's laughter echoing in his ears at the incongruity of performing such a ritual for him.

Highlander

The sword was where he'd left it, stark and lonely against the hillside. It was a sentinel that roused too many memories of other places, other times and people who no longer walked the earth.

Oh, the Torchwood one is heartbreaking an apt. I love it.

Hee! So true.

I love the image of the sword on the hill.

(Completely off-topic, I have a question about Highlander, and this is going to show you how little I know - *why* can there be only one? Why can't they decide not to kill each other and live happily ever after?)

Short answer - No one knows! It was never really explained in the film, just that it was something that was going to happen (yes I know there have been 4 films but I tend to ignore the others) kind of an instinctive thing. It was likewise never explained in the series, but that was half the fun.

Personally I think some of them are going to decide that the idea is a whole bunch of pigeon poop in the not too distant future and ignore the whole 'There can be only one' thing in favour of 'Live, grow stronger, fight another day' with Methos and Amanda as ringleaders...

Another Orphan

Torchwood

“This is not the Cardiff Sanctuary for lost waifs and strays, Tosh, human or otherwise!”

“Oh I don’t know. You took me in, didn’t you? And Owen. And Ianto. And Myfanwy. And...”

“That’s not the point.”

Dresden Files

I kicked at an unoffending trash can in frustration; this whole detective thing was really getting on my nerves, especially as I was trying *not* to use magic in an effort to sharpen my mundane skills. I wasn’t sure it was working, but I needed the experience if I wanted to branch out on my own in the way I’d planned. I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when the trash can yowled piteously at me; not the trash can itself I hasten to add, but the tiny and battered grey kitten inside it.

*snickers* oh Harry. I love both of these!

The Dresden Files one is even canon - it's mentioned in Storm Front that Harry finds Mister in a trash can when he was a kitten!

Glad you like.

Promises, Promises

Torchwood.

“You!” The red-headed woman’s fury was evident even though she didn’t move from her position behind the desk. “I said if you ever showed your face here again you’d be eliminated.”

“I’d like to see you try; I’ve changed a little since you last saw me. Oh and don’t bother trying to alert your flunkies as they’re all incapacitated. If you’re lucky he won’t have killed them.” On cue John swaggered though the door, his guns in their holsters but sword in hand. He nodded. “You’re lucky,” Jack announced. “But I think your luck just ran out,” he added as John sauntered over to the desk to rest the tip of his sword blade against the base of the woman’s throat.

Blake’s Seven/Doctor Who“You do realise,” Avon drawled, “that I don’t believe you for one minute. The Liberator is the most advanced ship in the known universe.” Irritatingly the leather clad man with the bright blue eyes just smiled, and leaned nonchalantly against the bulkhead as he folded his arms. Avon frowned. The smile on the other man’s face ( ... )

Oooh, that's fab... and wonderfully surprising with Jack!

I really, really want to read a full-length story in this vein now.

I don't think there *is* a full length story, but never say never! Glad you liked it.

One Small Problem

Dresden Files/Highlander (maybe Torchwood, too)

“Yeah, Mac. Great idea but I’m not *in* Chicago, I’m in Cardiff! That’s Cardiff, Wales by the way, the one by England. Where the hell am I going to find a Wizard in Cardiff when I can’t even find one damn immortal?”

*

And I'm not sure if this counts as it's a different fic, but uses the same fandoms.

Torchwood/Highlander

“You could have told me you were a friend of Methos’, Richie. It would have been a lot less painful.”

“Maybe so, but I’m not sure ‘friend’ is the right word and I don’t like to presume; he always catches me out. Plus I didn’t really believe him - an immortal who *isn’t* one of us? I thought it was another one of his stories, I’m sure you know the ones.”

“Yeah, I know.” Jack grinned and held out his hand. “Welcome to Torchwood, Richie.”

Firefly/Doctor WhoMal was not a happy man. He didn’t like unexpected items just appearing from nowhere in his cargo bay, especially not blue ones. He clattered down the steps to the cargo bay floor, and almost ( ... )

I've got a great idea!

Highlander/Forever Knight

“This is the place.” Amanda turned to grin at Methos as she pushed through the doors, only for it to turn into a frown as she realised he wasn’t following, but staring at the sign above the doors. “I like the name, so sue me. Now come *on* Methos, we’re letting the daylight in.” She pouted until he lowered his eyes and shrugged.

“I hope you know what you’ve got yourself into this time, Amanda.”

“Of course I do. I happen to be on good terms with the owner. Very good terms.”

Highlander/DiscworldWhen Methos decided to take a break in the park near the museum, he hadn’t expected to bump into a very large and very white horse attempting to eat the roses in his favourite out of the way spot. He patted the horse, who then attempted to eat his hair instead. Methos chuckled and leant his cheek against the strong and proud neck, breathing in the once familiar scent of horse as if it was the most precious perfume on earth. For some reason it didn’t strike him as odd that there was a horse in ( ... )

Amanda going to the Raven -- is she expecting to get out with all her blood still inside her? Or does she just love another way to flirt with danger?

As for the HL/Discworld cross, just tell me that DEATH is not there for Death!

Thanks!

Amanda and Janette have an 'understanding' that goes back a long time. Methos doesn't know about it, LaCroix doesn't approve and Amanda doesn't care as she's always rather liked living dangerously.

And as for DEATH, Binky has been feeling under the weather and took a wrong turn, latching onto another Death by mistake. I'm sure eating Methos' hair will make him feel a lot better!
