idontlikegravy Gave me P.
My first reaction was a big ACK as the character who came into my head immediately is one that I'm not fond of to say the least. Oh Well, here goes. There may be some slight bending of the rules; but hey, it's my list.
1: Peri. This is the one that caused me to go ACK. I hate Peri. I hate the accent, I hate the fact that she was there as eye-candy to try and attract more viewers to Doctor Who, I hate the fact that she replaced Turlough (who was far more interesting and didn't scream), I hate her for being stupidly obvious and obviously stupid, and most of all I hate her for being the one responsible for causing the Fifth Doctor to regenerate into the Sixth.
2: Tom Paris. I love Tom. I didn't expect to love him as I thought he was going to be your picture perfect all-american-boy which is not a type I usually go for no matter how cute they are. He was anything but. Tom became my fallen angel (probably intentional) and I adored his woundedness, but what got me from the very beginning was his ongoing redemption especially when aided and abetted by a dark-eyed devil in disguise (aka Harry Kim). The redemption theme could have ended up making Tom a very flat and boring character, but thankfully that was mostly avoided (except in some of the interactions with his so-called love interest). Most of my favourite episodes of Star Trek: Voyager are ones that have a decent dose of Tom Paris in them.
3: Adam Pierson. Don't I mean Methos? Well, not exactly; while Methos was Adam, Adam certainly wasn't Methos. Adam was the sort of guy you could chat to for hours and wouldn't worry about whether you were being boring, he's the sort you wouldn't mine taking home to meet your mum, whereas to Methos you probably wouldn't own up to having a mother - just in case. If you look at the earlier episodes that contain Methos you can see there is a significant difference between him as himself and him as Adam. I liked Adam, but it was interesting watching him drown in Methos as time went on.
4: Peregrine Lovat. This is a character in Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris' Adept novels. He is an artist who has a psychic gift and when we first meet him, he's freaking out as he keeps on seeing his subject's deaths as he's painting. He's endearingly uncertain, but at the same time confident in his ability and watching him learn to accept and grow into his gift over the course of the books is wonderful. He very quickly becomes part of a close-knit team who are trying to keep supernatural nasties out of Scotland and plays a valuable role in that team.
5: PC Andy. This is where I bent the rules *g* I don't think of the character as Andy Davidson, I think of him as PC Andy so I decided he could count. Andy is adorable. He's ever so slightly clueless, but at the same time he's funny, caring, a damn sight more intelligent than he's given credit for by certain people and he's down to earth. I can see him quite cheerfully watching rugby with Rhys and Ianto. Oh he's cute, too. I would be very happy if Torchwood 3 recruited him. BTW, it's definitely Andy that's cute, Tom Price doesn't hit my buttons in the same way at all.
