The weather's really nice today, so I spent some of the morning biking around downtown and running errands -
bank,
library,
co-op,
Dawn Treader -- they actually had one used copy of The Tempest (and several inexpensive complete Shakespeares) which kind of surprised me given the
Royal Shakespeare Company residency... Not that I'm complaining! Even given the nice weather and some
Stucchi's mint chocolate cookie frozen yogurt on the Diag, I'm still kind of in a tired, prickly, hiding-from people kind of mood.
It's been a busy couple of weeks since my last update. The most exciting event was the trip back to Maryland for the last weekend of
the Maryland Renaissance Festival with
turnberryknkn,
niquerio and Jesse. I saw the Shakespeare play (Midsummer's Night Dream) with
stellar_dust and
melannen (Bottom's costume was not very convincing and I wasn't very fond of Oberon, but the actors were obviously having a lot of fun, which will make up for an awful lot), finally gave
jalenstrix her owl finger puppet that I think was supposed to be a Christmas gift a year or two ago, saw jousting with just about everybody that was there on Sunday, and of course
lots of
good music. My wallet didn't escape
entirely unscathed -- but they look great with my kilt!
niquerio and I also saw
everyone's favorite spastic mandolin-playing hobbit and the How to Grow a Band at
the Ark. Seems to be missing something that
Nickel Creek had, but it's always fun to go to the Ark - I'm not even sure what the last time I was there was.
This past weekend was
niquerio's birthday celebration with her family. (Yes, her actual birthday was two months ago... so what?) Lots of good food, but her aunt's cat showed up unannounced and made me all sneezy, and Sunday morning my glasses accidentally got sat on and very broken. Luckily we were able to go to
a one-hour eyeglass store and get a walk-in eye exam and eyeglasses made.. still, it ended up eating a big chunk of Sunday. I think that's the root of my prickliness today -- I was planning on having some time to myself to just do nothing that I just didn't get, because when I finally got home I had to do laundry and make up the
volunteer schedule. In a little bit I've got to go to the swing meeting, and then home to work on problem sets and maybe some coding. Maybe tomorrow I won't bother going to campus and I'll just study the 478 stuff at home...
Lots more stuff coming up -- tomorrow I'm playing in the open band for
English Country and then several of us are having a The Tempest reading and then wandering around the graveyard across the street from Jesse's apartment in costume. And next Saturday is
Dancer's Revolt -- basically an all-day dance practice :-D:-D.
Yes, I know it's all my own fault - I way overschedule myself. But there's so much fun stuff to do! When am I going to finish up my
SIGMOD rejection, problem sets and various other course projects? Very funny! My plan is to start spending too much time playing
Neverwinter Nights 2 as soon as it comes out, fail all my courses, and earn the hatred and enmity of my advisor. Luckily, I'm very bad at actually following plans...
