Title: Ghosts
Pairings: OnTae, MinKey, friendly!JongKey
Description: Where Minho and Jonghyun are ghosts, and Key’s younger vampire brother Taemin is in love with his best friend Onew.

With Taemin unconscious and both Onew and Key too anxious to eat, there was no need to stop and the car smoothly pulled to a halt outside their old house just as the sun was beginning to peek over the rooftops of the adjacent row of houses. Onew had dozed off slumped over, careful not to crush Taemin’s head in his lap, but Key in the front seat was wide awake. The whole journey he had silently been flipping through a thick leather-bound volume. The pages were torn and tattered, yellowed with age, but the thick bold letters still stood out clearly. Several times Onew had tried peering over his shoulder, asking questions about the book, but Key either ignored him or replied with mumbles and grunts. Eventually, Onew caught on to the tense vein standing on Key’s neck and the way his hands trembled ever so slightly as he scanned page after page tirelessly, and fell silent choosing to gaze upon Taemin instead.

As the driver (whose face Onew had never seen) silently started to bring their bags up the driveway to the house, Key slowly got out of the car with his nose still buried in the book, taking the exact 14 steps to the front door without glancing up once. At the slamming of the car door, Onew blinked awake blearily, and stared out the tinted window trying to work out in his muddled mind where he was. In that time, Key had already unlocked the front door and headed up to his old room, while the driver continued bringing in bags. Finally, after the haze in his brain had faded, Onew gently slipped Taemin’s head off his lap and started up towards the house.

Cautiously, Onew peered through the doorway into the ancient house, as if he was before a sacred place. Inside, the pale brown wallpaper that seemed to be from the last century, and the stern faces of thirteen generations of ancestors seemed to glare down at him, disapproving of his presence in their household. Onew felt the usual fluttering feeling he got around Taemin and Key’s family unit, as if he was trespassing onto a world that conflicted in every possible way with his own, and he tried to calm his pounding heart as he took step after wary step into the carpeted hallway. Upstairs, he could hear Key slamming around his room, obviously looking for something as the scrapes and thuds of things being opened and searched made their way to Onew’s ears. Creeping forward the same way he had tried to creep out of the apartment the first night he ‘slept over’, Onew continued to explore the house.

Upstairs, Key had flung the archaic book onto Taemin’s bed, raising a cloud of dust which he proceeded to ignore. As what Onew had heard, he immediately began lugging out old chests from the corners and stretching into all the hidden nooks and crannies in the room, pulling out scraps of faded parchment. Some had rough looping scripts scrawled across them, others were elaborately intricately coloured and decorated, but he never glanced at a single one for more than three seconds before flinging them aside and reaching for the next one. Within a few minutes, the whole room was clouded in dust, and his eyes and nose were both running. As his hand reached out for the eleventh stack of documents, Jonghyun materialized in the doorway coughing loudly to get his attention, since ghosts obviously were not affected by dust. However, the sounds did not register in Key’s frantic mind, and Jonghyun pouted, squinting at his best friend.

“YA. IS THIS THE WELCOME I GET? YOU MOVED OUT, YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST COME BACK AT ANY TIME YOU WANT? WHAT DOES THIS HOUSE LOOK LIKE TO YOU-” Key cut him off by throwing a book over his shoulder right through him, before spinning around and glaring at the ghost.
“If you can make so much noise up here, make yourself useful for once and bring Taemin in from the car.” Being the dense block of plasma that he was, Jonghyun did not catch onto the bitter harshness laced in Key’s voice.
“Why? Is the lazy kid too lazy to wake up by himself again?” he chuckled, before Key flung another book through him. Only then did he realize that the tears streaming down Key’s face weren’t from the dust and his eyes widened in shock as Key opened up his mind.

“He’s...no way...an unconscious vampire means...Key, you HAVE to contact them.” Jonghyun reappeared kneeling before Key, cupping the boy’s face in his translucent hands, tenderly wiping away the tears. His lower lip trembling, Key shook his head indignantly.
“They wouldn’t even care. There’s nothing in it for them.” He mumbled sullenly, before taking a deep breath while standing up, shoving the papers off his lap. “Let’s go bring Taemin in.”

Jonghyun and Key dragged Taemin out of the back seat with much grunting and heaving, Key cursing under his breath for having fed the kid so much. Halfway up the pavement, Jonghyun bust out in a fit of laughter and dropped Taemin’s legs onto the ground, making Key swear aloud.
“What?!!” Jonghyun wiped tears from his eyes as he hugged his waist.
“Your neighbour’s kid...saw Taem’s legs floating across the driveway, and ran back into the house screaming for mommy.” Key cursed again.
“Fine. Get back into the house, you’re beginning to fade. ONEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!” Jonghyun narrowed his eyes at Key.
“Who’s Onew?”

At that moment, Onew came running out from the house, tripping over the doorframe and flying down the porch steps right onto the pavement.
“That’s Onew.” Key grinned at the bewildered ghost who had his mouth hanging open, pushing it shut as he waved Onew over.

As soon as Taemin was deposited onto the sofa, Key, Onew and Jonghyun barely had the time to flop onto the remaining seats before a sudden gust of wind blew though the house and five strangers appeared before them. Immediately, Key jumped to his feet and swept into a deep bow as Jonghyun disappeared with a gasp. The five barely tilted their heads in response, however. Onew continued to sit and gape, until Key placed a well aimed kick into his shin, making him jump up and bow.

The five seemed to emit a daunting aura about them, with their icy pale faces and black shrouds. The man in the centre had short orange hair which accentuated the dark circles below his eyes, but seemed to cast a solemn air about him with the hint of royalty. He was immediately flanked by a raven haired man on his left and another with chestnut brown hair, the first of who appeared to have the face of Lucifer, the fallen angel, and the other who radiated the ambience of a mighty scholar and advisor. At the two ends stood two boys, one blonde and another mahogany-brown haired. Together, they bowed once more, before the leader spoke.
“We are MBLAQ, the council of Vampires.”
