Title: Ghosts
Pairings: OnTae, MinKey, friendly!JongKey
Description: Where Minho and Jonghyun are ghosts, and Key’s younger vampire brother Taemin is in love with his best friend Onew.
As their luck would have it, if their Lady Luck also went by the name of Taemin, the school was closed for the entire of next week "as a reward for the various academic and other achievements obtained by the school this term". While his classmates were busy speculating who drugged the principal with what, and planning crazy week-long parties, Key was nonchalantly sketching a design for a new outfit.
His pencil flew across the page and the figure started to form, and within a few minutes he had drawn a slender man in a refined winter outfit. His classmate peering over his shoulder gasped in amazement, and slapped his back playfully.
“Jeez Key! You should be a fashion designer instead of wasting your time here!” However, Key barely twitched his head in response, frowning hard at his sketch. Usually, his model was someone about his size and build, since he customized most of his own clothes. Also, he never really bothered with sketching a face, since the sketches were for him anyway, but this time it was different. The model this time was slightly taller, with a smaller head and broader shoulders. There was a chiselled face too, and short jet black hair. Then Key gasped and his pencil clattered to the floor as he realized what he had done.
He had drawn Minho.
Key’s hand instinctively moved over the drawing, preparing to crush the paper, but somehow he couldn’t bear to do it, and found himself smoothly running his fingers over the model instead. Even if it was just a sketch, Key found himself mesmerized by the figure, and he found it hard to catch his breath. It’s a good thing Minho’s stuck in my room. I’d better not bring this home or else-
“Is that me?” Minho materialized over Key’s shoulder, making him jump and slam into the desk with a loud thud, attracting the stares of his classmates. Key flushed and muttered an apology as they turned away and started to mutter about him. He angrily pushed back his chair, turning and storming out of the classroom, Minho disappearing with a chuckle.
After Taemin had a talk with the principal, he needed to go for a quick hunt, so he skipped school for that day saying he had a dental appointment. When Onew hear that from his classmate’s first year sister who heard it from her boyfriend in the second year who heard it from the fifth year football captain who also wanted Onew to join the football team who heard it from his girlfriend in Taemin’s class, he decided there wasn’t much point in staying in school the whole day if Taemin wasn’t there, and slipped out the back gate.
However, after he snuck out, Onew found himself with nothing to do. Most people didn’t think he was up to doing things like sneaking out of school, and only knew him as the nerdy senior who got into accidents. True, he was rather accident prone, but that didn’t mean he was a goody-goody who literally studied the whole day. He’d done his fair share of skipping school, smoked his first cigarette, and been tempted to get an earring. But unlike the potheads that smouldered to oblivion in the bike shed behind school, he didn’t see the point in flooding his body with toxins, and struggling to cram his brain with information. Studying wasn’t hard, if you knew how to.
Deep in his thoughts about other’s thoughts about him, Onew didn’t realize he had walked all the way back home, a journey that took at least twenty minutes by bus. He’d barely entered his flat for ten minutes, when he started to feel restless again. Onew felt as if there was a nagging at the back of his head, telling him that he couldn’t sit still right now, that there was somewhere else he needed to be. So he tried to follow his heart.
Slowly, flight by flight, he made his way up the stairs to the 21st floor. As he stood bent over at the landing trying to catch his breath, a line of light on the ground caught his attention. Glancing up, he realized that the door to Taemin’s apartment was cracked open ever so slightly, just enough for a sliver of light to slip out. Warily, he knocked on the door, calling out.
“Hello? Taemin? It’s me, Onew.”
When there was no reply, he tentatively pushed open the door, to a deserted but fully lit living room. Calling out again, he made his way towards the bedrooms. Key’s door was wide open, as he always left it, but Taemin’s had been flung so hard it had bounced open again, allowing Onew to peer into the boy’s room. Inside, the lights were off and the curtains drawn, the dim smokiness of the room making shivers run down Onew’s spine.
Then he heard a growl from the corner. His eyes flew wide open, and he froze in midstep into the room. Taemin doesn’t have a dog he didn’t tell me about, right…? Gulping hard, he whispered Taemin’s name. Before he could blink, he was pinned to the floor by a snarling white figure, crying out in shock.
Taemin’s usual milky white skin was tinged with yellow, like a hundred year old parchment, with dark shadows hollowing out his eyes. Taemin’s hands were pinning Onew’s shoulders to the floor again, but it was different from the last time they were in this position, it was savage.
“TAEMIN. IT’S ME!!! WAKE UP!!” Onew cried out. He’d said he didn’t mind Taemin drinking his blood, but having his throat ripped out wasn’t exactly what he had in mind, or maybe he’d read too much Twilight. Taemin completely didn’t react to his cries though, and was digging his fingers deep into Onew’s shoulder blades to hold him in place, making his arch his back and yell in pain. His head spun when Taemin drew back his lips and revealed his extended canines, already stained with blood from some animal.
Just as Taemin was about to launch his head downwards, the room door flew closed by itself, slamming into both Onew and Taemin. Luckily, Taemin was thrown off Onew, and his head thudded into the door frame, his frail body crumpling to a heap on the floor. Wincing at his throbbing ribs, Onew crawled over to Taemin, shaking him gently. The boy’s face had once again flushed of all colour, and was back to his usual pale complexion, devoid of all hints of the savage animal about to rip out his throat moments ago.
When Key came back home to a house he thought had been broken into to find Onew with two fractured ribs cradling an unconscious Taemin, the only thing he said was: “We’re going home.”
As he calmly flung clothes into a suitcase for both Taemin and himself, he suddenly froze in the centre of the room with a pile of shirts in his arms.
“MINHO!” he yelled out. Without a moment’s pause, the aforementioned spirit appeared before him, as he turned to continue packing.
“I feel like a magic genie doing this, but, you called?”
“Yeah. We’re going back to the old town, you coming?” Key was expecting the ghost to coolly shrug and appear when they were leaving anyway, but out of the corner of his eye Key saw his jaw clench and a vein on his neck start to stand.
“Will Jonghyun be there?” Key rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, he’s eternally bound to my house. What are you bound to?” Minho shrugged, before disappearing again.
Key growled at the back of his throat, when he heard a whisper in his ear.
“I’m bound to you.”
Onew refused to go to the hospital for his ribs, insisting that they would heal in time, since he’d fractured ribs before rolling down stairs. Finally, two hours later, they left. Key sat in the front with the driver, while Onew continued cradling Taemin’s head as he lay down in the back. Minho did flash across Key’s mind for a moment, but he shook his head and cleared it right away. That jerk could find his own way there. An unconscious Taemin was something that only happened once every blue moon, namely, never.

Next week, on Ghosts... I know I promised Jjong in this, but as tiny as that blingasaur is, he wouldn't fit. Right away, in the next chapter, honestly. As usual, don't worry, no one dies in this fic. (:
