Queensland's only doctor with a permit to legally administer RU486 ceases providing medical abortions for fear of prosecution:
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,27574,25578293-3102,00.html When a doctor who is legally entitled to administer an abortion drug stops providing abortions because of our ambivalent and outdated abortion legislation, it's time to make a change.
On Wednesday the 10th June (that's next week, folks) you have a chance to stand up and tell Premier Bligh how much you object to the prosecution of those who chose to terminate their pregnancy, and the intimidation of abortion providers, under this 109 year old law. A Nielson survey (AC Neilsen 1999, 'Queenslanders' Attitude Towards Abortion') showed that 60% of Queenslanders think that abortion should be legal in this state, and over 80% believe that abortion is a matter between a woman and her doctor. But the only way the government will change these laws is if that majority stands up and shouts for it.
Please, turn out on Wednesday, or show your support by writing a letter or signing a petition

EDIT: Excellent article by Dr Caroline de Costa and Dr Michael Carrette outlining their reasons for ceasing to provide RU486 and the legal issues that surround abortion in this state.
