The nurse came out twice, originally: first time to demonstrate and talk me through the process, second time to observe while I went through the steps one by one. That was fine, machine did what it was supposed to, and all was well with the world. The very next day, however...
They say computers and cars know when they're in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, because they will inevitably stop acting up and begin doing what they're supposed to. The minute the knowledgeable person is gone, however, they know they can intimidate the heck outta the person running them now. That's what that little stinkin' machine did to me - the very first day I was on my own.
Mind, DH's insurance has a co-pay for each time the nurse comes out to the house to manage the IV - and if we let her come out for each time, it would create a bill that we really can't afford right now. So the need for me to learn - and then learn the "manual" way to do things. I'm not even gonna try to get the machine to prime when I do things today; it failed yesterday too, so I did it manually (heart in mouth the whole way.) DH is up and harrassing the cat this morning, so I must have done it right.
Gotta love the way insurance - or lack of same - creates new learning experiences...
