NaNo - Day 6

Nov 06, 2013 10:45

Gonna be a fairly busy day today, but I've got my word count done for the day.

Have to admit, tho, that part of the word count came about because of a "write-in" that I attended at a local coffee house late yesterday afternoon. It seems that there are enough of us here on the Central Coast of California participating that we now qualify as an official "Region" with the NaNoWriMo website. When all was said and done, 7 of us had pushed four tables together and sat together, either yakking and getting to know each other for the first time or typing our little hearts out.

I'm not the only one working on a fantasy, although a couple of the others are far more familiar with the "what the hell do I do next" stage that comes after you have an o-fic novel pounded out and, apparently, edited and ready to go. I think I'm gonna be talking to my daughter in OR, to see if she'd be willing to do a drawing for my cover art on commission. And then I'll think about either selling it through Amazon Kindle or some other e-publishing firm.

A client of my daughter, Súl, is a publisher of sorts. She and I had a long talk about how a new author "breaks into" the business, and her advice was to e-publish first and get a proven track record of sales and reviews. Then, perhaps, one can approach a hardcopy publisher with a subsequent novel and maybe make headway. Sound like a lot of work, when what I really love to do is just tell stories. But I am determined to actually sell something, so I'm gonna have to knuckle down and learn the rest of the ropes that are involved in being an "author".

On other fronts, however, the day will be full. First I'm driving my learning disabled son JJ to pick up a friend of his to take her to a new place for lunch. It's a hamburger joint, and I'll have to order mine without a bun (I'm gluten-free now, you see), but I know they'll do that for me. Then I have my mid-afternoon talk with engarian that I'm really looking forward to, because we're both working on NaNo this year. Finally, at 4PM, I have a chiropractor's appointment, where he's going to do a re-assess with me because I've been in treatment for a year.

My word count for the day was:

11963 / 50000 words. 24% done!

Until next time, dear f-list!
