Self Analysis

I'm not the most brilliant writer in the world; you don't have to tell me that twice. I already know and I'm perfectly fine with that. I have my strengths and I have my weaknesses, but I think that the weaknesses way outnumber the strengths. My strengths include the ability to "step into" my characters and my ability to assess the emotional tension of a situation and write narrative and dialogue accordingly. My weaknesses include not trusting my reader to understand and the annoying incapability of never being able to find the right words. Well, at least I don't think I can find the right words. However, my peers tell me that they like my word choices because they are simple, yet eloquent and descriptive.

Compared to the writers that I admire, like Jane Austen and the Bronte's, I feel extremely inferior. My style reflects theirs, long and flowing, but I feel that I get my lack of confidence in finding the right words from them. I really enjoy J.R.R. Tolkien and I feel like I follow his style of word choice just a little bit more.
