Locating Kaworu-san and Kamui-san was not difficult, but the scene awaiting Unohana was more than worrying. She hurried over to them and knelt next to Kamui, not touching him for the moment.

"Kaworu-san ? Were you here when it happened ?"

Kaworu glanced in the direction of Unohana when she arrived before turning away.

He shook his head sharply. "No." He kept his reply short, not trusting his voice for long answers.

Unohana looked up at him with a frown.

"You mentioned this as being similar to something that happened in your world. I take it that you are affected too."

This place was far from ideal for treatment, and Kamui-san required a bed, and some feeding procedure to be put in place so that he would not suffer from his own body's exhaustion.

"Let's go back," she said, getting up and grasping Minazuki's hilt. She drew the nodachi and called its name. "Swallow the Heavens, Minazuki !"

The lade dissolved in green smoke and formed the giant, one-eyed stingray. It keened at Unohana as it landed, making the rubble around them shake. Unohana picked Kamui up and walked to Minazuki, who obediently opened its mouth to accept him.

"Minazuki will keep him warm and hydrated until we are back. We will see if there is anything more to be done for him then."

She held out her hand to Kaworu-san.

"Come. We are not walking back."

The angel nodded very briefly.

"Arael did something like this once." He paused slightly and dropped his head a little, his words were slow when he spoke. "The second was completely broken down. They doubted she'd live."

In the back of his mind there was a little voice saying that his sister did much worse than these voices. He supposed it was meant to be comforting, knowing that there was a better chance for Kamui to live. He wouldn't and couldn't entertain that thought though.

Kaworu glanced over and watched as Unohana moved around. He sighed out of frustration and lazily picked some dirt off his trousers. He nodded absently to show that he'd heard the other, he hadn't really registered the words though.

He stood slowly and walked over, his gaze keeping to the ground. He took the other's hand without a word.

"You can tell me more about this once we are home," Kamworu-san.

How odd, she thought suddenly, that she now thought of the little Clinic as home. But it was a constant in an otherwise quite chaotic world, much like the 4th Division station in Soul Society.

She helped Kaworu-san up onto Minazuki's back and followed him, gently scritching the beast's head as she did.

"Let's go, Minazuki."

The stingray keened again and rose in the air, gliding towards the Clinic. Unohana looked at Kaworu-san from the corner of her eyes. Kamui was her more immediate concern, but this one would need as much help as she could give as well.

"We will get through this, Kaworu-san."

Kaworu nodded half-heartedly. He didn't really feel like talking but he doubted there would be much choice in the matter.

He allowed himself to be helped up and almost immediately turned his head to look at a distant point. He felt guilty in a way that this had happened, he couldn't explain why he felt that way but he did. The angel reasoned it was probably because he hadn't felt any sorrow when the Second child was in such a state.

He nodded again but didn't say anything for a few moments. Eventually he mumbled out, "I hope so."

Kamui-san's physical well-being was the priority, and Unohana did not lose any time as they reached the Clinic. Minazuki regurgitated Kamui-san and dissolved again into the blade.

"Why don't you go ahead and draw a hot bath into one of the bathrooms, Kaworu-san ? We need to get him cleaned up."

Hopefully, giving him something to do involving Kamui-san would allow him to both relx a bit while keeping him where she could see him.

She picked up the boy, so frail and light, and barely breathing. She was going to need to put him on a feeder line. And she hoped that Kaworu-san would explain what was happening. It seemed that both Kaworu-san's and Kamui-san's nightmares had combined to create this situation.

She knew Kamui-san had some horrific things in his past, but she had not pried before. mybe she would need to when the young man would be better.

Kaworu stood around as if in a world of his own when they'd arrived. He came back to his senses long enough to hear what the other said. Numbly he walked on ahead to do as he'd been asked.

The angel was trying his best to keep his mind empty, to think about as little as possible. If he started thinking about too much he knew exactly where his thoughts would take him. That way was where madness lay in wait.

He gave a small bitter laugh. There was a very mocking voice in the back of his mind telling him this was what he deserved. That being emotionally hurt because of a Lilim was punishment for defending them.
Kaworu sharply shook his head and held one of his hands under the hot running water to distract himself.

Unohana followed Kaworu into the bathroom and laid Kamui on the floor.

"Give me a hand, Kaworu-san," she said as she started to strip the young man with no apparent care for modesty. She was not a maiden, and sh was a doctor before anything else.

"Kaworu-san !" she said a bit louder when he did not react immediately. "help me out. And tell me what you know about this while we make sure to warm him up."

The angel jumped a bit, momentarily forgetting where he was and what he was doing. He blinked a few times before remembering things and mumbled something which might have been an apology ( ... )

"And this is what is happening now ? Why is it affecting him if it is your memory ? Is it because you watched someone to whom it happened ?"

The only person she had seen in such a state of mental distress was Hinamori-fukutaichou, and the girl was still very damaged, even after months of treatment. Hopefully, Kamui-san would be fine once the event was over, but if his brain was under too much pressure there was the possibility of permanent damage.

"I can help with putting up some barriers, keeping him fed and hydrated, but I cannot fight his battles for him. Keeping him alive is the most I can do right now. He will have to deal with the rest when he wakes up. That, at least I can make sure of."

She carried the young man to the tub and lowered him in the warm water.

"Why don't you grab the washcloth while I hold his head, Kaworu-san ?"

Kaworu shrugged, he wasn't sure himself of the answer. "For all I know he might simply have had a mental breakdown of some kind."

He nodded, that had been all the NERV doctors had been able to do for the Second. It was something that the person would have to snap out of by themselves. As much as he hated coming to terms with it there was nothing that could be done apart from sitting and waiting. Hopefully he'd be awake, or at least partially conscious, when the event was over.

The angel nodded again and did as he was told.

"He was fragile to begin with, I hope this thing hasn't made him worse." He mumbled quietly.

"I think you will find that he is stronger than he seems. He just needs a good reason to fight," Unohana said with a small smile.

They finished washing up Kamui and Unohana dried him with a towel and put him back in his clothes. She decided against putting him in his room and carried him to the ward instead.

To the untrained eye, it looked like she just put her hand on his brow and closed her eyes, but by the time she was done, she was sweating and her breath was a bit labored. She then put both of her hands on his chest, and a soft golden glow spread from them to envelop all of Kamui's body in a safe cocoon.

"Right," she said, using her haori sleeve to wipe the sweat off her brow. "I know that you technically do not need to drink, Kaworu-san, but a nice cup of tea does wonders to settle the nerves."

"Then I hope he finds one." Was the short reply, completely devoid of emotion.

Kaworu wasn't sure what Unohana had done but he wasn't going to question it. It was a very safe assumption that it was for Kamui's wellbeing regardless of exactly what it did. Not everything needed a detailed explanation after all.

The angel nodded slightly. "I'd do just about anything right now to try and settle my nerves."

"Well then ... let's leave him in peace. The energy shield will alert me if he wakes up."

She led the way back to the kitchen, and busied herself with the soothing making of tea, soon, putting two steaming mugs on the table. She sat down with a little sigh and smiled at him.

"What about you, Kaworu-san ? How are you holding on ?"

The angel made a small 'hm' noise in understanding. His mind instantly picking out the 'if' in that statement.

He silently followed the other to the kitchen before taking a seat at the table. Absently he started to trace out various symbols on the surface. Kaworu had always liked silences before, they allowed him to think and analyze various things, right now though it was unnerving. He smiled slightly at Unohana and gave a small 'thank you'.

"I'd like to think i'm holding on well. I'm not seeing things just hearing them." He paused slightly, thinking over his choice of words. "It's strange hearing your own death."
