With an audible gasp Demyx had jumped up from his spot and pivoted around to see who had addressed him. But when his gaze had landed on the culprit, sea green eyes that had once been wide and startled became narrowed and cat like in their accusatory glance. This was exactly the person Demyx wanted to and had tried to avoid - it was just his horrible luck that Sora would show up right now.
"You!"
In a way the nobody was a parallel to how he had been just before his (future) fight with Sora. Looking just about ready to beat down on the brunette as best as he could, but, on closer inspection it appeared the flight option was appealing far more to Demyx than the fight one ( ... )

If Demyx decided to attack him, he wasn't sure if he would be able to fight back. He had nothing to defend right now. Demyx was angry and reasonably so. If he chose to attack him Sora felt that he deserved it. He had done something far, far worse to the man and he know that, some day, Demyx would experience the same thing when he went home. Maybe that was why Sora wanted to be his friend now. He wasn't sure. When he spoke again he barely recognized his own voice. It was quiet. Curious, but subdued.
"Someone told you didn't they?"

How could Demyx have forgotten Sora wanted to talk to him, and would be looking for him? He should have known and been ready for this confrontation.
Demyx felt his breath hitch. It couldn't have been Sora wanting to tell him about his death... could it? That would just make things harder for (future?) past Sora so he had no reason to warn Demyx about it! It was alarming that Demyx had forgotten how to continue breathing when the thought of Sora wanting to help him had popped into his traitorous and fearful mind. But considering how quickly Sora had volunteered to protect him so soon after Demyx's arrival ( ... )

With a short and muted sigh Demyx unsummoned Arpeggio. A puddle of water splashed onto the cement underneath in the place the instrument once stood, the sound a harsh contrast to the silence that had fallen over the light haired nobody. Sora hadn't taken out his keyblade. If Sora wasn't going to start a fight neither would Demyx, that was not how the Melodious Nocturne prefered to do anything. He only ever resorted to violence if it was the last resort.
Got in my way, those were the words that reverberated in his mind. They all had gotten in Sora's way. Demyx had gotten in his way. It was starting become hard to see the reason for why he did in the first place; Roxas didn't want to come back. Roxas had willing left the organization behind - ( ... )

For a long time Demyx mulls over Sora's question in his head. A long enough time someone might assume that he's either forgetten about it or purposely ignored it.
"Why you went so far." Far enough as to take Demyx's pathetic excuse for a borrowed existence. Demyx didn't take anymore steps back. If he had he would just be driving himself further into a corner, and corners were exceedingly hard to escape from when you were being approached.

"I..." He slowly looked up, still afraid of what he would see, "I wanted to get through to save my friends. You were the first one out of the Organization that I ever fought like that. I didn't stop to think about who you might have been as a person I just...needed to get through. That was all I was thinking about. And how you were in my way." He swallowed slowly. When he spoke again his voice was shaking, "I didn't think about it like I was killing someone. "
He couldn't do it. He dropped his gaze once more, "No one ever taught me to be nice to you guys. They all said you were bad people and I just...I just listened."

They must have; going by what Demyx had been told since coming to Adstringendum they'd all found tragic fates while getting into Sora's way...
...Getting into Sora's way were the orders they were all given. They were listeing to orders. Demyx had just listened to the orders without questioning them - he realized with a jerky flinch. Demyx was just as responsible for his death as Sora was.
Feeling suddenly drained of energy Demyx slumped, his gaze landing on Sora's shoes, unwilling to look up to see the look on the other's face anymore.
Looking made it hard for Demyx to continue being angry.
"What happened after that? ...Did you find your friends?"
