Almost reflexively Sora took a step closer once Demyx had gotten rid of his weapon. He remembered how it felt to get hit by that thing and he would prefer to avoid it if at all possible. For a brief moment he felt relief. Demyx didn't hate him enough to beat him into a bloody pulp or at least try to. Maybe that meant he could fix things. Maybe they could be friends.

He tried not to let Demyx's words weigh too heavily on him. One day he might be able to forgive himself for what he did, but for now he would bear his guilt. He had killed people without even giving it a second thought. That made him no better than some of the people he had battled before and he was going to have to learn to live with that. There was no strictly evil and strictly good. There were shades of grey in his world, shades he hadn't acknowledged before but were now staring him in the face quite literally.

He took a couple of steps forward, hesitant at first. He nodded and took a deep breath. This was going to be more difficult to relive than he thought it would be.

"Um. Do you want to know about the fight or about why I was doing what I did? I just...need a place to start, you know?"

Demyx would not be capable of feeling the hate he would have felt had he actually experienced his death. If it had happened already the situation they were in now would have been very different.

For a long time Demyx mulls over Sora's question in his head. A long enough time someone might assume that he's either forgetten about it or purposely ignored it.

"Why you went so far." Far enough as to take Demyx's pathetic excuse for a borrowed existence. Demyx didn't take anymore steps back. If he had he would just be driving himself further into a corner, and corners were exceedingly hard to escape from when you were being approached.

Sora could barely force himself to look Demyx in the eye. He had never felt as intense a guilt as this one in his entire life. He never really thought about how important forgiveness could be to a person until now when he felt like it was so out of reach. He wanted it, but he couldn't help but think that he didn't deserve it.

"I..." He slowly looked up, still afraid of what he would see, "I wanted to get through to save my friends. You were the first one out of the Organization that I ever fought like that. I didn't stop to think about who you might have been as a person I just...needed to get through. That was all I was thinking about. And how you were in my way." He swallowed slowly. When he spoke again his voice was shaking, "I didn't think about it like I was killing someone. "

He couldn't do it. He dropped his gaze once more, "No one ever taught me to be nice to you guys. They all said you were bad people and I just...I just listened."

From the spot on the ground he'd been glaring at Demyx looked up and pinned Sora with a piercing glance. As Sora went on with the explanation his breath became more shallow. Demyx had been the first to be sent to go after Sora. Demyx knew he wasn't the most powerful nobody. So it only made sense if they'd all underestimated Sora's capabilites and strength.

They must have; going by what Demyx had been told since coming to Adstringendum they'd all found tragic fates while getting into Sora's way...

...Getting into Sora's way were the orders they were all given. They were listeing to orders. Demyx had just listened to the orders without questioning them - he realized with a jerky flinch. Demyx was just as responsible for his death as Sora was.

Feeling suddenly drained of energy Demyx slumped, his gaze landing on Sora's shoes, unwilling to look up to see the look on the other's face anymore.

Looking made it hard for Demyx to continue being angry.

"What happened after that? ...Did you find your friends?"
