Castiel might be mortal, but he was still an angel; like other angels, he got restless. That was why, even though he really had no reason to be out, Castiel had gone for a walk despite the temperature.

His coat was warmer than it had been, thanks to Rei's work, but it was far too big for him and so wasn't the best at shielding him from the temperature. It was, however, great for concealing the two angel swords he carried, though.

Thomas was fast discovering that the shops in Adstringendum were in almost as poor a condition as the buildings themselves. A cobbled together mess, most of them falling apart or rusting through. He'd finally found a shop that carried guns, but the one the shopkeeper had shown him had barely been deserving of the name. It had probably been a musket in some long-ago former life. Currently, it was a pile of rust in the shape of a musket.

He'd shaken his head at the shopkeeper and left the shelter of the shop, irritated. The saber bounced lightly against his hip as he sidestepped Castiel. "Hello Spock," he said with a grin meant to be extremely irritating. "Out looking for your feelings?"

"Feelings are intangible." He responded immediately, and the answer was dry enough it might've been almost clear that Castiel was being flippant with it. He hadn't meant Thomas in person yet, though it had been only a matter of time.

Castiel's answer made Thomas' lips twitch in an involuntary almost-smile. "Well, you found one of them, at least." He took a step back and studied the angel, eyebrows arching at the coat he wore. "Trying to blend in with the locals, darling?"

"What do you mean?" Castiel still didn't quite get that his coat made him look homeless, okay. He liked this coat. "I am a 'local', regardless of how I look, as well." It'd been almost eight months, after all, and this dimension was only populated with people pulled from others.

He smirked and gestured to Castiel, head to toe. "Trading in the wings and the diapers for Mulder's castoffs. Do you look less intimidating that way?"

Castiel gave him a look, unimpressed. "We usually wear whatever our vessels were wearing when we took control." Castiel changes his clothes now, being humans, but still. "We rarely have need to look intimidating."

A laugh tugged at Thomas' lips, already colouring his words and threatening to spill forth. "So your... vessel was a homeless radio ad salesman?"

Have an expression that's close to actual exasperation, now. "Why does everyone keep insinuating that I appear to be homeless?"

The question is all that laugh needs to break through his self control, and Thomas laughs, the sound rich and rolling and full of life and amusement. "I don't know, darling. You think it has something to do with the fact that you look homeless?"

"That makes no sense." Okay, sure, the correlation does. But he doesn't get how he looks homeless. "My clothes are not particularly damaged, and my hair is shorter once again. What indicates homelessness?"

The laugh did not diminish, and Thomas indulged at his leisure. It'd been a long while since he'd had a good laugh. But eventually it faded and Thomas ran a careless hand through his hair. "Must be the expression," he answered. "It's a state of being and you just look lost."

A pause.

"A shave might help too."

Okay, whatever. Castiel resisted the urge to roll his eyes, quiet and just waiting for Thomas to finish laughing; when he did, Castiel crossed his arms. "We are in an apocalyptic and unstable dimension. Is appearance that important?"

"Sounds like it's important to you, sweetheart," Thomas answered promptly, wicked humour in his eyes. "Since you seem all upset about being called a homeless salesman."
